My hall says that there will be NO shots allowed at the wedding due to legal issues. I am so upset. Do you think this will put a damper on the wedding?

Wanna talk about 'elegance'?.... hahaha... I went to a 'dry wedding' (No alcohol at all... not even if you bought it yourself)
Even the toast was apple cider!!! Come on now....
I've been to the SAME kind of wedding! The toast was sparkling apple cider. You should have heard the crown grown after the toast!
Worst Wedding Ever! It was in Conneticut, a week after thanksgiving and the served turkey and stuffing!

I think if you have it in a regular glass it shouldn't be a problem. If your groomsman slip the bartenders tips, it def. won't be a problem.
I think I know where they're coming from. I went to a wedding where everyone was doing shots and it got out of control. There were people throwing up, one of the guests got really nasty and cursed out one of the maitre'ds- it was kind of out of hand. It wasn't a low class crowd either, it was just a bunch of people who had way too much to drink. I kind of felt bad for the bride and groom.

At a friend's wedding in CT, the bartenders wouldn't make shots. We asked for Yellow Cake Shots (vanilla vodka, triple sec and pineapple juice. Tastes just like yellow cake mix!) and he refused, but then put more than the amount of a shot in regular glasses. It's like -- Dude, you just gave me MORE liquor than you would with a shot glass! Doesn't that kind of defeat the purpose...??

Actually this sounds weird to me becuase i have been to numerous weddings at Westbury Manor and I always did shots (and only once was i in the wedding party). And i remember them being in small shot glasses not the bigger glasses......In fact one wedding we were in the back of Westbury Manor and a girl brought the whole shaker and little plastic cups out to serve people and that was early 2004. This must be a new rule???

yeah, that kind of ***** in my opinion...although FH's friends are big drinkers, so it would tick us off if our hall told us no - especially for the amount of $ we are dropping.
I agree completely. I like to do shots, its not about getting wasted. BTW, Capitale is GORGEOUS!!!

I'm not talking about frat party type of shots going on. I'm talking about the groomsmen wanting to make a toast in celebration. My guests wouldn't expect it to be a college keg stand type of party. I just don't like when options are taken off the table.
I know exactly what you mean, and although I never asked my hall, my DH 'had' to have his shot with the boys...as you can see frm the pic, they served him his Henessy in glasses...all were happy. I know how you feel, you're paying a lot of money and want everything perfect...there's only one reception. Good luck!

I requested a 'No Shot' policy for the reception. I want people to have fun, but contain it so that there are no mishaps. Dram Shop laws are tough and the hall is simply trying to mitigate their exposure. . I went to a wedding recently, they simply placed a 'shot' into a glass with or without ice. It was just a change in the glass. I believe you shouldn't worry about it - you will be accomodated.

I went to a wedding at the Bellport Country Club where there were no shots allowed... all he did was put the shot in a big glass.... not a shot glass and served it that way.... They can't deny you... it's almost like a small drink.... just without the mixin's. Dont' worry - you'll be fine!
Watermill did this for us - No 'SHOT' glasses......but we all did shots @ the bar. - And no one was totally wasted or out of control - Just a good time !! Don't worry - they won't refuse anyone - they just won't advertise

My hall does have a 'no shot' policy but in my experience, shots will be served to the bridal party and the bride and groom if asked. I think it is a good idea b/c what will put a damper on the wedding, is if you have a relative puking on the dance floor b/c they drank too many shots! It's not a frat party it is a wedding!
I was in a wedding and that's exactly what happened!

My hall has no shots--all the Lessings did. I think it was explained about the third party thing, someone hurting someone drunk going home from a wedding at the hall. I think that with martini bars, and frozen drinks tons of beer and wine selections not too mention liquer the shot thing is really not too important--the guests have soooooooo much other things to drink.
Aren't there shots on a cordial bar?

They say 'no shots' to protect themselves on paper, when it came down to the actual wedding, guests were doing plenty of shots and no one was refused. In fact one of the guests 'made up' a shot and the bartender was all for it.
