My hall says that there will be NO shots allowed at the wedding due to legal issues. I am so upset. Do you think this will put a damper on the wedding?

shots as in drinks? If that's the case you might be better off in my opinion because they can get out of hand and people getting out of hand would put more of a damper on your wedding then not being aloud to have shots.JMO

My hall does have a 'no shot' policy but in my experience, shots will be served to the bridal party and the bride and groom if asked. I think it is a good idea b/c what will put a damper on the wedding, is if you have a relative puking on the dance floor b/c they drank too many shots! It's not a frat party it is a wedding!

Thanks, but I went to a wedding where there were no shots, and people were complaining. And after that wedding, my FI made a point to say we have to bring that up to the hall. Do you think they can at least but liqour straight in a glass? Or maybe I could slip the bartender some cash? What do you think?

I agree 110% IMHO: It's a wedding and it's not a fraternity party. People (hopefully) know the difference and shouldn't be getting WASTED anyway. My hall has the same policy and it's not unheard of.
It's probably better off, and honestly, I don't think anyone will notice. It won't put a damper on your wedding at all.

I went to a wedding at the Bellport Country Club where there were no shots allowed... all he did was put the shot in a big glass.... not a shot glass and served it that way.... They can't deny you... it's almost like a small drink.... just without the mixin's. Dont' worry - you'll be fine!

I'm not talking about frat party type of shots going on. I'm talking about the groomsmen wanting to make a toast in celebration. My guests wouldn't expect it to be a college keg stand type of party. I just don't like when options are taken off the table.

If it's something that's gonna stress you I'd ask at the hall. Sometimes the little things that are important to us become big that day, and we should be enjoying the day, so I would definetly ask. Hope it works out

my hall told us the same thing. I think it's a pretty reasonable 'rule' since you don't need people getting all rowdy and crazy (violent!).

There is a no *shot* thing at the halls. It is for their protection to make sure people do not go overboard. It is a good rule, b/c there are alot of people who do go overboard with an open bar, including people who are very inexperienced drinkers.
Having said that. If your BP wants to have a 1-shot *toast* during the night, you might be able to arrange that in the Bridal suite suring CH when it is just you& the BP.....they might do it as long as other guests don't see it.

Re: Can you believe this?
that stinks!!! I remember the last couple of weddings I've been to they put the shot in a regular size glass. Perhaps they will do that. I hope so since I'm getting married at WM too.

I think this would be fine and I am sure people do it all the time. Just ask them ahead of time and express your concerns. I think halls do it for liability reasons, not sure though.

yeah, that kind of ***** in my opinion...although FH's friends are big drinkers, so it would tick us off if our hall told us no - especially for the amount of $ we are dropping.

I was not thrilled with it either, considering I am a bartender (or was at that time), DH was a DJ & many of our friends were in the biz & all we do are shots, but in all honestly I am glad that DHs 18 yr old cousin was not able to do shots of Jack all night......it is one less thing I needed to worry about as a bride.
And really if you ask for something 'neat' it is basically the same thing as a shot, just in a different glass.

Re: Can you believe this?
honestly, it all depends on what the bartender decides to do.
I requested that beer be served in a glass because I HATE looking at people's wedding pics and seeing 12 bottles of beer on a table.
But, at the end of the night, there's a pic of my MOH with her husband and he's holding a big brown bottle of beer

Re: Can you believe this?
I think I was under the impression that when they say no shots, that means no hard liqour served in a small amount at once. I'm coming to find that a lot of these halls that say NO shots mean NO shots in shot glasses. I don't think it's a big deal if it's in a bigger glass.

Re: Can you believe this?
well I am sure there are some weddings were groups of people do like 20 shots together and then there are fights - and vomit fountains - I would just trust your hall and let it go...if there is a special toast then as to make an exception - but really is it that much of a big deal?
