Can you girls help, im embarassed to even post this...

I am not in the highest of esteems lately...

So my shower is saturday (if anyone else would like to come FM me - some LIW girls are coming!) and I dont have anything to wear. And that doesnt sound like a problem to many of you, but it is to me. I have ALOT of anxiety when looking for clothes. My outfts are years old, because Its really difficult for me to go and buy something.

I look in the mirror and I see this beautiful girl, who isnt even as big as she really is - but when i walk into a store, i freeze, get sweaty 0 my heart races and then I cant buy anything. I am weird sizes bc I have a Tiny waste and big hips, small boobs and not so flattering arms. I am small too, im only 5'2' so im a pear..I had a great friend try to take me shopping once and she picked out wonderful things and I couldnt do it. Its just so painful for me.

So I have my shower and I want to wear something nice - but I am so afraid. I am going to put this off till friday night at 8pm and make it worse. I really dont know what to do, what to look for.

I dont know how to shop. Can anyone help me find something that will be flattering to my figure?

i'm with you on the clothes shopping anxiety part!! the worst thing for me is that i've gained some weight and i now i hate trying on clothes even more!

anyway, one of my favorite stores is anne taylor loft because they really think about designs that can fit many different types of women. this is important to me because i'm short, and not many stores carry petite sizes that actually look nice.

i would say a simple A-line dress would flatter any figure.

good luck!!!!

i'm kind of the same shape - are you tall or short? I bought a BUNCH of dresses for my shower this saturday at lord and taylor... ugh, I really need to post some pics because I haven't decided which one I'm wearing.

I think they are all a-line. One is actually belting - which i never do but i was wearing a good bra that day so it made me look really curvy.

I would go with an a-line, they are the most flattering, and maybe a slightly stretchy material. You'd be surprised but i know what you mean - I had 14 dresses b/c i know I always have this problem.... but I was happy I got like 4 out of them. two of them were OC something - an oleg cassini brand; check that brand out. I forget the others; I'll look tonight.

Don't put it off until Friday, you just have to bite the bullet! I used to be really bad like this but I've gotten much better....one time I went shopping with my mom to Macy's and literally tried on every single dress that came in my size. The ones I thought I would like looked awful and the one I ended up LOVING I hated on the hanger...but it was so flattering on!

I also find I do my best shopping by myself, at places where I don't have people trying to 'help' me...that stresses me out or embarrasses me. I would suggest going somewhere with a big selection (like a dept store) and literally trying on everything in your size....you might be surprised! and nobody else will pay attention to what you're trying on anyway....

Also, do you have any outfits that you LOVE the way they fit? Maybe look for similar elements of things you have loved before?

HTH Lindsay!!!! You will find something and look beautiful I'm sure!!!

'09er crashing: What about trying stores like Nordstorm or Lord & Taylor that have alterations departments? If you find something you like, they can tailor it so it fits perfectly . . . and often, they can accomodate rush jobs.

I have a short torso and wide hips, so I often have a problem just walking in and buying something. But I got some great dresses last summer that they were able to alter to fit.

Good luck!

if you are 5'2' then go for knee length or shorter and wear heels... that will elongate you. they have some adorable dresses... is there an L&T near you? if you go google the coupons - I save so much because there are always coupons!

AT Loft is everwhere - almost any mall has one.

When I go shopping, its like nothing fits - and i guess its just distressing looking at myself ion the mirror, but ive also had that same distorted look when i was 140lbs. too;.

I'm 5' 2' too, so definitely look into the petite section. sometimes the hem line is a little longer than i want it, but that's a simple alteration.

ann taylor loft stores are all around the NYC/LI area, here's the WEBSITE

i went through the same thing when i went dress shopping for my shower (which is this saturday too!). i dragged fh to so many stores, and every time i would come out of the dressing room with my head down. I feel like some of the new style dresses are just so not flattering on me at all. I was about to give up until i went to Marshalls and i was surprised at how many dresses they have, and i ended up finding something i really like. Don't give up, go today or tomorrow and show us when you find it!

OMG, we must have been separated at birth. I have the same exact problem. I HATE shopping, and get anxiety attacks when I go into stores. Sounds like what you are describing.

Wish I could help, but obviously I can't. Just wanted to let you know you are not alone!!!!

Just keep in mind that Ann Taylor Loft and just Ann Taylor carry totally different things!! The one in Smith Haven mall isn't a 'Loft'. I know there's a Loft in Huntington village and also on S. Oyster Bay Road in Woodbury. HTH Lindsay!!

a wrap dress is flattering on just about everyone. If you have money to blow, go to Nordstrom & get a Diane Von Furstenburg. If you are on a budget, they have them at Old Navy.

Here are some at Macy's

Honestly Linds - don't make yourself nuts. It's your shower, not dinner with the president.

Get yourself a nice pair of light-colored slacks and a pretty blouse.

Like the other girls said - try Ann Taylor Loft - or - if you're on a budget - try NY&Co or Dress Barn. Look for petite pants (it's really not hard to try on pants) - start with bigger sizes - say if you think you're a 6, try on a 10. It will be swimming on you and when it's too big you'll be a little excited about it. Go for a wide-leg pant - it's dressier.

For a blouse - go for something with a ruffle down the front. Something going from the neck down to your belly will elongate your torso.

Of course, tuck in the blouse and cinch it with a belt. Show off that litle waist.

Can i wear pants? Is that an option? I want tolook cute and think of it in my head but when im face to face i chicken out - like I am right now
