Can you girls help, im embarassed to even post this...
Original post by madseason
I am not in the highest of esteems lately...
So my shower is saturday (if anyone else would like to come FM me - some LIW girls are coming!) and I dont have anything to wear. And that doesnt sound like a problem to many of you, but it is to me. I have ALOT of anxiety when looking for clothes. My outfts are years old, because Its really difficult for me to go and buy something.
I look in the mirror and I see this beautiful girl, who isnt even as big as she really is - but when i walk into a store, i freeze, get sweaty 0 my heart races and then I cant buy anything. I am weird sizes bc I have a Tiny waste and big hips, small boobs and not so flattering arms. I am small too, im only 5'2' so im a pear..I had a great friend try to take me shopping once and she picked out wonderful things and I couldnt do it. Its just so painful for me.
So I have my shower and I want to wear something nice - but I am so afraid. I am going to put this off till friday night at 8pm and make it worse. I really dont know what to do, what to look for.
I dont know how to shop. Can anyone help me find something that will be flattering to my figure?

Honestly Linds - don't make yourself nuts. It's your shower, not dinner with the president.
Get yourself a nice pair of light-colored slacks and a pretty blouse.
Like the other girls said - try Ann Taylor Loft - or - if you're on a budget - try NY&Co or Dress Barn. Look for petite pants (it's really not hard to try on pants) - start with bigger sizes - say if you think you're a 6, try on a 10. It will be swimming on you and when it's too big you'll be a little excited about it. Go for a wide-leg pant - it's dressier.
For a blouse - go for something with a ruffle down the front. Something going from the neck down to your belly will elongate your torso.
Of course, tuck in the blouse and cinch it with a belt. Show off that litle waist.
OMG thank you so much.

Can I be honest - I dont think i can ever wear that - my arms are gigantic - like they make me sick - and Im scared of patterns...Im a piece of work
and i dont know why im scared of that - i would go for soemthign that was plain black.
Can i wear pants? Is that an option? I want tolook cute and think of it in my head but when im face to face i chicken out - like I am right now
Ok, how about THIS : Faux Wrap Shirt Dress $79.00 Stretch poplin shirt dress with point collar and faux wrap. Two button flap patch pockets at chest. Flared self-fabric tie attached at side. Pleated detail at tie. Ruching details at shoulders. Cap sleeves with banded self-fabric cuffs. Seaming detail. A-line silhouette. Hidden side-zip. 35' length.
Plus, I saw photos of you in your album...your arms are not as huge as you think they are. But I know that it's a self-perception issue, so if you don't feel comfortable in a sleeve-less dress, that's fine. Just don't think that there's nothign out there for you
Re: Can you girls help, im embarassed to even post this...
awww- why are you embarrassed..everyone has issues with clothes no matter what size they are.
What about either a wrap dress or an a-line skirt with a blouse. Reular dresses might not work if your waist is tiny, but the wrap can be pulled tighter.
Im sure the salespeople can help you too. Dont worry you will find a really cute autfit. I wouldnt wait till fri though.

I completely understand how you...not only am I short I'm also plus sized...so shopping has never been good. My arms are the sole reason I haven't purchased the wedding dress I love yet, because I'm trying to figure out how sleeves or a jacket will look.
You aren't alone in feeling this way.
I thin the girls here have shown you lots of great dresses. I hope you find something you feel fabulous in. Clothes are just clothes...it's the person that makes them Just thought I'd leave you with that uplifting note.

Girl, just popping in quickly & can't read through what everyone has written but wanted to let you know.
1 - you are gorgeous, you should know that & all you need to think is that you want something on you that makes you feel as fierce as you are.
okay there suggestions, while corney, I sometimes am not in the mood to shop. But when I need to shop & I am not in the mood, I sometimes need... shopping music.
You heard me. shopping music. load up your ipod or other music player with whatever music that energizes you and makes you feel sexy. None of that crappy department store musick that lulls you to sleep & gets you annoyed. Sometimes you need a soundtrack to get you in the mood. I swear some stores have figured this out & I play better music, to which I shop to death to.
Anyway it works for me it may for you.
some other suggestions. Wear comfortable but nice shoes, if you are planning on wearing heals with the outfit, try & find comfortable shoes to go shopping in but that have a little lift so you can see what you would look like in your heals in the outfit.
Also my friend is similar to you in height & says she has the same issues. She swears my Anne Taylor & ann taylor loft, I guess the have the petite size length she likes.
Good luck! you will look fabulous!!!

Just keep in mind that Ann Taylor Loft and just Ann Taylor carry totally different things!! The one in Smith Haven mall isn't a 'Loft'. I know there's a Loft in Huntington village and also on S. Oyster Bay Road in Woodbury. HTH Lindsay!!
Smithhaven mall has both stores now!!

here's what you do (not in this case because you are pressed for time)... go shopping... get a few pieces that fit you, but might be a little on the bigger side... then, take them to a tailor to have them taken in to fit you PERFECTLY! It will do wonders!!!

This dress is super cute... if you're self concious about your arms, a cute white cardigan would look really pretty over it (try Ny & Co... they have some nice ones now).

Jenn said it perfectly! Don't look at the size either... I think we all get caught up in numbers... they're just numbers, right? And something to give you volume on top while making you look longers is PERFECT!

a wrap dress is flattering on just about everyone. If you have money to blow, go to Nordstrom & get a Diane Von Furstenburg. If you are on a budget, they have them at Old Navy.
GENIUS! And get yourself an amazing pair of heels and you're all set!
Don't let it stress you out too much... and a lot of girls mentioned Ann Taylor Loft... AMAZING! They carry pants that come in Regular and Short. Plus, they have a petite section!

wear a full or a-lined dress, or you can get a skirt like that with a top if a dress wont be able to help each part.

We all have areas that we are not to proud of! It is hard to find something that flatters in all the right areas. Just remember that you are going to see people who love you and want to be there.

i have arm issues too and something like this would cover the top part of your arms which ones thats covered the rest looks fine. And the will emphasize your waist and fit well on your hips since it comes down straight
i think this is cute too but not sure if it is your style. I think a small waist and having some hips is a good thing, you have an hour glass figure so flaunt it girl, dont be ashamed of it bc there is nothing wrong with it
this might be too long though if youre short so if you do wear anything this length then dont wear any shoes with ankle straps, infact any shoe that leaves the top of your foot as bare as possible so it gives you this continuous long line from your legs to your feet
or maybe a top like this with a nice pair of pants or pencil skirt

whats a pencil skirt? I am fashionally challenged....would my tabletop hips fit in there? I think im afraid of my curves
