We were flirting with having an engagement event for the LI families -- can you tell me more about the place, food, what you liked about it.....(FI owes it to me; we are having a city wedding in deference to him so this would be our LI contribution.)

Re: Carltun girls
Well- how big were you thinking for the e-party..
I have looked into other rooms there to do our RD.. I have pricing and menu info if you want it-- but it is high-- $95pp. I thought this was too much for an RD.. considerign also what I spending there the next night.
If you wanted something smaller- they have a room called the Secret Dining Room- where they can do a sit down dinner for 30 or so people- but, no stations, passed foosd, etc. The room will not accomodate.
They just built two new rooms which opened this summer- we just looked at these for RD- very pretty for a private party- then again, there is the wine cellar- which is awesome- but would be more for the other rooms- esp. on a Fri or Sat night.

Re: Carltun girls
Were you planning on using the ball room or the restaurant for your engagement party? Well, either room you choose the food is amazing. I just love driving up to it, the cocktail room is huge. You can have it inside and out even if it rains. The ball room is so nice and open. I wanted everyone to fit comfortably. What specifics would you like to know?

Re: Carltun girls
I agree on everything the other Carltun gals have said! The food is outstanding, that's for sure. And the place is so beautiful, whatever room you choose would be great. I think it just depends on the amount of people you're looking to have.

I just noticed we are each having our weddings on different days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

I wanted a Saturday, but all things considered, Friday ended up working better for us.
Are any of you guys doing the after party?

Re: Carltun girls
Since my wedding is on a Sunday night, we decided to skip the after party. If it was Saturday night, we would have considered it.

Re: Carltun girls
We have a ton of out of towners, so we decided to do it. When we set out to look at locations we knew we wanted a place that had some sort of after party capability. We were thrilled with the option at the Carltun.

Re: Carltun girls
So- you would probably want to do this new room- The Gatsby Room..
This is like $90 a person.. including top shelf open bar; 15 passed items and like 3 course dinner with a Viennese table.

It is really nice- and they have these amazing chandeliers.. then on the other side- it is a more casual room where they can do the cocktail hour.. it is more of a bar-- but it is brand new so it is nice too. There are private bathrooms down there- so, no one else would be in there. And there is a sound systems- so you can just program CDs for music.
What else do you want to know?

Re: Carltun girls
ooooh... I have to go back to the Carltun! I haven't seen these new rooms. Last time I was there was in May and I don't think they were finished.
Do you think they would close Hanvanas for a private party? That place is so cool, and one of the chief reasons we did the after party thing. I know it's a private cigar bar, but they may close for a large enough party...
Wish I could give you more specific info Deb, but I don't know much about the place other than that the food is extraordinary, and the rooms, any of the rooms, are beeeeautiful!

Re: Carltun girls
Well, I am trying to come up with something quite different than the wedding which is going to be pretty modern. (Although MIL went through a really wacky 'enchanted forest' theme last week Doo doo doo doo.

Re: Carltun girls
Deb: Well in my opinion, the Carltun is much less modern, and way more Gatsby, gold coast Long Island-esque. If you're having a modern wedding and looking for something real different for the e-party, the Carltun is a good place to look.
Allure: At the Carltun, after the reception officially ends, they provide an option (for more $$ of course ) to go to another room where the party will continue for another 1 1/2 hours. It takes place in the cigar bar called Havanas, and there is more food, cigars, drinks, and entertainment. In our case, we're choosing to have a Calypso band! We have a lot of out of towners and wanted to give them something to do after the reception that didn't require travel, or simply going back to the hotel.

Re: Carltun girls
Ok--
We are having the after party at Havanas- this is the room that was presented to us as an option. So, that is where we are doing it. ETA: They do close off Havanas for private parties- I asked specifically about this- thinking shower, etc. The room is amazing.
Deb- the Gatsby Room is really pretty- molding, wood floors- and again amazing chandeliers. It is def the opposite of the Puck Bldg. I think you would really like it.
The wine cellar may be another option for you Deb.
