Elizabeth- how far in advance did you do your tasting and really start to finalize stuff before your wedding??

ETA-- your cake is so pretty-- how were they in 'creating' the look of your cake?

Re: Carltun Thread

Well, we booked our July 3 wedding in February, so everything was rushed and I was doing things right up until the last minute. But we did our tasting in early June (I think). My husband had ate their numerous times before so I wasn't too worried.

What do you have left to do?

Re: Carltun Thread

Yeah- we have eaten there as well several times.. I wish during the tasting you can taste the CH food though! I am also going to sit with the chef and do a special vegetarian meal- as I am veggie and I don't want to eat steamed vegetables at my own wedding!

I am pretty much under control. At this point, I want to start scheduling all my meetings with my vendors-- I figure planning starts to take on a life of its own- you just start riding the wave, ya know? Any tips??

The planning does take on a life of its own As far as advice, I can tell you that there is nothing to worry about with The Carltun. However, and I know that you have heard this before, enjoy every minute. Everyone gave me that same advice, but it still amazes me how the day was over with the blink of an eye. After 6 months, I still look at the pictures all the time.

thanks

So, no specific things to look out for with Carltun?

Re: Carltun Thread

I can't think of anything about The Carltun. My biggest issue that day was with the shuttle bus company (dropping off 100 out of town guest at the cocktail hour 45 minutes late).

Is your maitre'd Terrence?

Re: Carltun Thread

What shuttle company did you use?

I think Terrance is our Maitre' D-- he is the only one Sheila mentioned. I swear he must work every wedding.

Re: Carltun Thread

It was Academy Bus. To be fair, I found out afterwords that it may have been my relatives' fault for not getting on the bus on time (they had some time between the church and when the cocktail hour started).

It was funny though, because when they did arrive, I wanted them all to eat as much as they could in a short amount of time because I felt like it would have been a waste of our money if that many guests didn't get to eat cocktail hour. Later, my aunts told me that they did eat a lot because they thought that it was the only food being served (thinkong that it was dinner). Because my family is from upstate New York, they had never seen a cocktail hour like that -- most of the upstate weddings they had been to just had cheese and crackers

Terrence was amazing. He and Mary (the bridal attendant -- I think that was her name?) were what made the day go so smooth.

Hi...Thanks for posting a picture of your cake Elizabeth --it was so pretty...

Hmmm...I was told that they don't do cake tastings????

I called Tiffany (the girl we booked with) to find out if they would charge me a cutting fee if I brought an outside cake. I also asked if I could go on a tasting so I could decide whether or not I wanted to bring my own cake and she said that they don't normally do them --I thought this was strange...

I have been to a few weddings lately (not at the Carltun) where the cake wasn't that great and that is why I was considering having an outside baker make it but if their pastry chef is good then I will just stick with him/her...

Just to clarify, we tasted the food before but not the cake.

Re: Carltun Thread

oh okay --so i guess they don't do cake tastings...oh well...think i am still going to just stick with their cake...

did you use their linens?
Elizabeth720 Posted:

Re: Carltun Thread

I did use their linens -- I wanted white and they were nice.

I also used their cake and it was yummy. We had a dessert cafe and we made sure we tried a little bit of everything. You can see my cake on my photo album, just click on community. The only little complaint I had was in order to put our initials on the cake it had to be done in fondant, whereas the rest of the cake was buttercream. It looked all white in person, but in some pics you can see the fondant looks really white and makes the buttercream look yellow. But it was yummy.

Carltun brides-- need your help.

When did you guys do your tasting?

I have set two target dates that work for us- Feb 10 and March 3-- with March 3 being my first choice.. I feel like I don't need to do it too early- and later maybe there will be more menu options..

Thoughts??

Oh- wedding is April 16.

Re: Carltun Thread

No they are two totally seperate locations.... I don't normally hear very good things about Carltun on the Sound.... but I never went to go see it, so I'm not really too sure. Definetely go check out the Carltun on the Park in Eisenhower Park. It's amazing!

Carltun on the Sound is def NOT the same. I went to see Caltun on the Sound FM me if you want details.

We would have looked at Carltun..but it was a little out of our price range!
