Carltun Thread

Original post by pbandtim

I think us girls need a thread too. Since I'm getting closer I have more and more questions about the place. I have a meeting tomorrow to make another payment and I'm trying to get questions together. Do you girls know if they will have the CH decorated? Ice sculpture or fall leaves, etc?

question for anyone who has been there recently. Did they get the new ballroom chairs yet or does anyone know when they are coming in?

Didn't even know they were getting new chairs...what are they supposed to look like?

The same as the old ones, but some of the older ones were starting to look old and worn so they are buying a whole new set.

Another question are any of you using a DOC if so who and whats their pricing like? Thanks

I went to my tasting last night and just wanted to give everyone the heads up... They do not serve you any cocktail hour food. You get to taste 2 salads, 1 chicken (a french roasted), 1 beef (filet), and 2 fish (salmon & mahi mahi). I don't know if you all knew that's all you get, but it's definately not what I was expecting.

Since we were eating in the Palm Court we weren't allowed into the ballroom or CH room, so I couldn't count tables or see if the new chairs were there. Sorry.

Hi- I had snuck into the ballroom and they have not yet received the new chairs. I'll be there on Saturday to do my menu in the afternoon. There is no wedding until the evening, so I will definitely take another look!

I am so excited I finally got the call to set up appointments for the tastings and menu! I can't wait. Maryann said that the tastings appointments are only of Tuesday Wednesday or Thursday, does anyone know if they are really strict about that or can we choose another day?

Re: Carltun Thread

Well, The Palm Court is closed on Mondays, so that day is out. They probably don't want to do them on Friday - Sunday because the restuarant gets full and they're probably busy with other events. That's just my speculation though. I'd ask. If I've learned one thing in dealing with them, it's to speak up!

For those who just had their tasting, how was the food?

Re: Carltun Thread

I have to be honest... I wouldn't know. I don't eat meat or dairy, and I was promised there would be food there for me to try and there wasn't. There wasn't one thing I could eat. Needless to say I was very disappointed. FH said the food was good, but not as good as he'd remembered from another wedding we went to there (randella's) or from the countless times we've eaten at Palm Court. Mom and sis really only liked the mahi mahi. And we're not really picky eaters. So, maybe we got the chef on a bad day? It happens. I'm not too worried. I'm much more upset that no one remembered the feed the bride-to-be, as I made it clear before we ever signed a contract what my restrictions were. And I was promised that my needs would be addressed. We requested another tasting though so I can taste what I'll be eating on my wedding day. We'll see how that goes.

Maryann said it is only salads and entrees for everyone to share. Is that right? Do you get to pick what entrees?

Re: Carltun Thread

Yes, it's only salads and entrees. I wish she had told me that. She didn't tell me anything specific about the tasting and I was really surprised when we got there and found no CH food. You don't get to choose anything. They choose the menu.

How many people can you go with and do the tasting?

at our tasting --we requested to try the pasta since we were having pasta as a course at our wedding --they gave us a whole big stink about how they do not serve pasta at the palm court but then they brought some out for us...

they also served us dessert at our tasting...

Re: Carltun Thread

I'm not sure how we're supposed to really choose a menu if we don't get to taste anything for the CH and really don't get to compare entrees. You get one chicken, the filet with one sauce, a salmon and a mahi mahi. I suppose they serve us the most popular ones, but it seems to me that at a tasting you'd get to compare small portions of different options in order to make a decision. I used to be a corporate event planner and that's what all the tastings I've ever been to have been like. Oh well.

Re: Carltun Thread

I just talked to Maryann to set up my appointment and she told me that what they serve is what they serve and that they couldn't possibly make everything on their menu. I was like I don't want everything, but some other things would be helpful. She wasn't budging. I agree I don't know how you are supposed to choose your menu with all of the choices and never having tasted them.
