I've been on 6 cruises. 4 of which were carnival and 2 RC. My parents have cruised carnival, RC, Princess, and Norweigian.

I personally HATE Royla Caribbean -- the food and service are just not good. My parents werent impressed with Princess and they didnt like the Freestyle cruising of Norweigian.

There are a lot of misconceptions about Carnival. The food is actually fantastic, the entertainment is the BEST of all the cruise lines, the boats are very nice (maybe not as elegant as some others, but just as nice in its own way), and its cheaper than many others. To be honest, I fond that its all up to the individual. But dont let people steer you away from carnival just because of what they've 'heard.' Most people that have actually cruised carnival before will tell you its a blast. Because of the younger crowd, theres a lot more fun activites to do onboard. My parents (they're int heir 50's) went on Princess and Norweigian and the thing they DIDNT like about it was that they said almost EVERYONE was older (I'm talking like 60+). Carnival has a mixed crowd -- anywhere from 2 all the way to 70. Yes, the majority of cruisers are in their 20's....but WE are in your 20's too. why would you want to go on a cruise with all older people?

I would try talking to people who have cruised several lines (including Carnival) before you make any decisions.

Yeah its based on personal preference...I've never been on carnival so I don't know. Also I went on the crown princess and their ship was different than the other princess ones...Infact our ship was FILLED with young people, but personally they got on my nerves alot...There were 4 pool areas, and by the main pool area you wouldve thought it was spring break...IT was filled with teenagers and people in their 20's, they were by the pool always dancing, and playing all those type of spring break games, you know the couple games and winning contests and all that, they were actually really rowdy...Even in the club it was filled with alot of young people, but all of them were a mess actually lol. The food was also great, and service was amazing.

haha, yeah I think that there are so many factors that affect opinions, especially on a cruise - who you are with, who your waiters are, who your cruise director is. Seriously, there are so many elements that make up the cruise experience. The first cruise I went on was Norweigen, the SS Norway, which is no longer sailing, it was like their oldest ship ever, from the 1970s, I literally cried when I first saw it BUT we had the best time ever, the food was amazing, the staff was out of this world...

To be honest, I think the reason I didn't like Carnival was because of the way our particular ship was decorated, it was just so LOUD, the dining room had all these weird purple lights all over the place, by the end of the trip I was just tired of looking at it all. But I guess thats a pretty shallow reason not to recommend it!!!

Re: carnival cruise?

another thing i have heard that carnival has alot of annoucements. Announcing all the activities that are going on for the day. Celebrity does not have any annoucements except for emergency drills. and mandatory stuff.

On celebrity its a much older crowd, but me and FH hole up in our room, relax on our balcony and have our table in the main dining room with just us, we dont sit with other people.

We dont drink or gamble or stay out at the nite club all night. We relax and spend all our time and money in the spa and the persian gardens. We dont care that the people are old, we dont socialize with them.

We like room service, and relaxing. We dont like to come home from a vacation totally wiped out and exhausted.
we like to come back refreshed and rejunivated.
but not everyone likes this type of vacation

Yeah everyone definitely is different, FH and I were in the casinos until 3 or 4 am depending whenever they closed...We went to the club twice but it was a bunch of annoying teenagers, which made FH happy bc he would rather be at the casino...Everyone has their own agenda...We went with a bunch of FH's family and honestly we only saw them at dinner. They would wake up early lay by the pool all day, which FH and I only did once for maybe 2 hrs...they went to shows, and did all these activities and everything was on a schedule...FH and i liked waking up whenever, we never made breakfast oh just once lol...Going around doing different things, and yeah basically at the casino...but it was so much fun, we met alot of couples there and hung out with them all the time. All the dealers knew us by name and the people in there...It was a big group of us who were there everyday, and we had the best time. To each their own.

That is why its hard to say what cruise will be best for someone unless we know exactly what they are looking for, what is appealing to one person is not to another

Re: carnival cruise?

Denise that is exactly true, unless you know the person and what their needs are you will not know what cruise is right for them.

My travel agent guy, was great we spoke for hours, he got to know me and what my likes and dislikes were.
and that is how we decided the best cruise for us.
Most people would go mad with a 12 night cruise, but we loved it, and would hate to do another cruise less than that.

*We never made breakfast either, but every night we would put our breakfast order on our door, i was obsessed with eggs benedict, and we would write what time we wanted it delivered. Our state room attendent would call about 3 minutes before to let us know it was on its way. I would throw my robe on and let him in and he would set up our meal on the balcony every single morning, we would eat, then go right back to sleep til the afternoon and then get up for lunch
Heres a pic of how he would set up our table in the morning

meggo, lets go on the same cruise hahahaha

poor FH's would never want to be with us.

Carnival Cruise has a lot of kids but you honestly don't notice them. There's a lot of people our age too. I just didnt socialize with them because we were with a group of 50 so I stayed with my group.

This was obviously before I came out of my shell!! lol

so far tonight I've spent most of my internet time, on the link Nicole posted (thanks, I saw pics of the renevations you talked about it was stunning!)

L, I've been on RC after going on a Princess... Right now we're between 2 ships on 2 lines,we're booking saturday.

mini RC review:

Dining room, we were not impressed with the food nor the company (assigned dining companions).. we ate at Jonny rockets when we got back to the ship from excursions and dined at Portofino for dinner, we had breakfeast delivered each morning ..

loved the Solarium!! best place to watch the sunset was in the hot tub, cocktail in hand , best part was we were almost the only ones in the hot tub.

Spa massages were soo relaxing,

we didn't go to the shows, nor climb the rockwall... we hit the casino a few nights after...

The service was not as impressive as the Princess, but nothing to complain about.

Princess:

We liked the food, we ate w/ FIL's everynight at a table for just the four of us.. Our waiter was great he brought our cocktails over to us as he greeted us after the first night & he knew what to bring & since I'm a pain always had my off the menu items prepared...

We gambeled here and saw a few scomedy shows w/ FIL's, but spent the time after dinner, in a lounge having cocktails w/ FIL's...

we didn't have any spa treatments on this ship, we were docked everyday (it left from San Juan, so we didn't hae a day at sea)

L,

What did you not like about RC that you liked about Carnivale?

Re: carnival cruise?

Yeah i have to say the service was AMAZING on crown princess...We had the scheduled dining, and we were given waiters that we had everyday. The maitre'd was from the same italian town as FH's uncle so on top of the food we had he would make soooo many things just for us. Risotto, calamari, plates and plates of so many things. They were on top of everything, they remembered our names and were so sweet...It's funny bc whenever we eat lobster or crab legs Fh says 'man where is Milo when you need him' he was one of the waiters' i even have a pic of him on my slideshow on myspace lol. We even left them all a real big tip at the end of the trip because of the service.

Many of them remembered our names and were so great...Ive heard people complain about cruises saying it takes them forever to even get a drink...We would constantly have someone coming up to us to ask if we needed anything, seriously like every few mins. The last night we were there, they leave out these cards that you fill about if you want to thank an employee and to recommend them for employee of the month...I spent an hour filling it out for sooo many of them, bc u give it to them after, everyone was laughing at me, bc i made sure to write them for every single person lol.
