CASG - FIRST TIME HOMEBUYERS GRANTS

Original post by papabear

Casg

You indicated in an earlier thread that you had experience with first time homebuyers grants.

Could you please explain how this works? I tried doing some research on line but got mixed signals regarding income and purchase price thresholds.

Is there an income threshold? What about a purchase price threshold?

I'd hate to think I missed out on a free grant because I didn't educate myself enough. This may be too late for me but not for some of my friends and family who are looking to buy their first home. As well as some of the people on here who are doing so as well.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

he had stated that he was just as educated in buying a home then any agent was

and well hes not
he didnt know about grants let it be if he was qualifed or not he didnt know it

ugh...i NEVER said i was just as educated in buying a home as any agent was. I NEVER EVER SAID THAT. What I said is that you shouldn't compare it to having your fiance operate on you and i went on to explain that my experience as well as countless others I know who went at in on their own has positive experiences from it. I FURTHER went on to say you should always be careful. NEVER EVER did I say that I knew more than real estate agents did.

ALSO - I DID KNOW ABOUT GRANTS AND I SAID AS MUCH BUT I ALSO SAID THAT IT APPEARED THAT I WASN'T QUALIFIED DUE TO INCOME AND PURCHASE PRICE.

The responses from so many people on here PROVE that even if they DID use a real estate agent, that they would:

1. probably not be asked to provide a pre-approval or pre-qual letter

2. probably not be told about first time homebuyers grants

3. probably not feel any safer than if they went to the home with the agent

so whether they went FSBO or through an agent, would difference would it have made to any of these people -

CASG - if you practice your profession as well as you are able to read and comprehend what is being said, then I suggest you...no forget it...i don't feel like being mean. To say that you helped people on this board by bringing the comment up in the first place can hardly be referred to as self-redemption because it wasn't until you were called on it that you made mention of it.

Marcella - thanks for the website. I appreciate it.

All I can say is that I had SUCH a terrible experience with a RE agent, I will try never to use one again...it just put a really bad taste in my mouth.

I'm sure there are some very honest, ethical agents around, but unfortunately there is a stereotype that goes along with that profession, just as with car salesmen. It may be unfair, but that;s just the way it is

And Marcella, I agree with you 100%. This board is here to help people. Thanks

Thanks Marcella!
Dh and I are looking at purchasing in a bunch of various states (basically wherever we get stationed this summer!) so that site was a big help.

Thanks,
Laurie

thanks gina for bringing up the grant programs...and thanks marcela for posting the link...

I think there may be something that we can use

PAPABEAR - First Off if you could read and comprehend what you just wrote here, then you would realize that your comments are way over the top and also unnecessary...

this is a place for people to compliment each other and add value to the lives of others who share the same interests.....
what are you hoping to accomplish with your silly comments?

If you are so inteligent than it would be ignorant to assume that you are expert in every career path life has to offer...
if CASG is a real estate agent than i would take her advice ANY day over someone who is just looking to feel importand and post ridiculous comments that only lead to negativity.
You obviously Arent educated in real estate so why do you pretend to act like you are? are you just trying to feel important or something? I just don't understand.

I don't know what it is you do for a living but obviously it doesn't involve interacting with other people... because you aren't very good at that.

and... CASG i read your posts often and you are a very nice person who always has good things to post... don't let this angry person stop you from adding value to the boards!

I apologize if anyone took what I said as bashing CASG. I was just stating my experience, and what I choose to do in the future.

I don't know many people on here, and certainly would not attack someone personally.

It seems that EVERYTIME Papabear posts, it turns into something ugly. He is always bashing someone for something.

If you know it all...then maybe you dont need to be on this site!

that's so sweet that you are defending your fiance but you obviously share some similar traits as your wife to be....you DON'T READ!!!!!!

I never said I knew MORE than a real estate agent....i just said you shouldn't shrug away from going at it on your own. it was your fiance that made references to the fact that only through real estate agents would people get certain services or safeties or likewise and the responses on these boards PROVED HER WRONG. I've never professed to being all-knowing (though your fiance has with all this RE business!). I've never boasted about all the 'education' I've had to go through to get to where I am today and I've even referenced my faults several times in all my posts

i've said my peace and I know I'm right. Maybe my comments do spur some interesting debates but to be honest with you, i prefer it that way - after all, your fiance wouldn't have been able to let us all know about first time homebuyer grants if I hadn't - something she is OH SO PROUD of sharing.

Look at the other posts related to this thread...your fiance isn't a sweetheart buddy.

Papabear-
You're right I do stick up for my fiance... and i only post when some angry loser that has too much time on his hands decides he is going to try to act like a tough guy and make fun of her.

Truthfully you should be a real man and find more productive things to do with your time then log onto wedding chat boards and bicker with nice people.... (mostly women)

and finally i dont need you to tell me Anything about my fiance... I know her well.

Maybe you should spend more time being a real, as opposed to virtual, support system for your fiance. Then she wouldn't have to come on here looking for it from everyone else all the time. As for being a tough guy - does your picture icon represent your true self or is it just your way of acting like a tough guy.

My views regarding this issue were never disputed by anyone BUT your fiance and I believe all, if not most of them, had similar experiences with RE agents that I had.

She's wrong. You're wrong. Get over it. Move on. Have a nice day.

yeah a few people had a problem with me for a MIN.

but i shall not tell a lie, the minute this started i have recv'd emails from many girls on here
telling me that PAPABEAR always causes trouble, and hate that you speak your mind on here

so as the old saying goes
if you dont have anything nice to say DONT SAY ANYTHING AT ALL.

this a site of positivity not name calling and judging people WHEN YOU DONT KNOW THEM.

Your 90 something post have not been helpful not nice.

As a past victim of papabear, I have to agree. After being attacked by him on an opinion I once shared, I decided to ignore the rest of his comments on LIW.....but apparently he feels the need to still attack. He appears to be an intelligent person with very few people skills and no idea how to talk to other people.

And for the record, Casg, I agree 100% with your original post on this thread. I wouldnt' help him out either based on how i've been treated in the past! good for you standing up for yourself!!
