my friend is getting married a few weeks before me and shes on a strict budget. (arent we all!!lol) she tells me that it is going to be a cash bar. later in the conversation it comes out that her idea of a cash bar includes soda. her wedding is only going to include water and coffee. if anyone wants a soda or wine we will have to pay. even for the toasts she said well have to pay for our own wine! i have such a huge problem with this its been bothering me all week. i so just want to pay for it myself! i dont think im going to be the only one who finds this frustrating at her wedding.
is anyone doing this and how did it turn out?

i have been to weddings that have had cash bar, but they weren't on LI. they did all include soda. i think if most of her guests are from upstate, they won't be surprised about paying for alcohol.

Wow that's weird? I never carry money on me. Especially to a wedding. I wouldn't know what to do if I went to a wedding like that. Is that what weddings are like in the town she is from?
What is her family saying about this?

If I went to a wedding that only served water and coffee and I had to pay for alcoholic drinks then I would be so turned off by that. Might as well go to a bar/club and pay for a drink but not at a wedding. I would not have that at my wedding or been to a wedding that had a cash bar.

Could she maybe have a punch bowl? I've seen pictures of this on wedding blog sites and the punch matches the color scheme of the wedding.

I went to a wedding a few years ago exactly like this! It was upstate NY and I had to pay for my own soda. Finally, when the toast came, we thought 'free champagne' but it ended up being ginger ale!
The most annoying part is that the bride told me before hand that she feels cash bar including soda is perfectly fine because why should she have to pay for everyone's drinks.
Umm... because you are hosting a party and people are giving YOU gifts!!!
