we still havent opened all our bridal shower gifts and now people have started sending us wedding gifts. i thought the proper etiquette was for people to bring a check in an envelope? i deleted by bridal shower registry from bb&b, but now i get texts asking where my registry went!
how do i tell people, send gifts we need money! in a nice proper way lol

I've seen people write a poem and in the poem it says something like 'please make sure your gift fits in an envelope'
TACKY!!!
I would find the biggest freakin' envelope ever, and put the crappiest gift in there.

Do a honeymoon registry so that you only get cash.

Re: CASH not gifts!
I am writing it on my invitation. I only registered for my bridal shower & engagement gifts. I guess who ever asks just tell them monitary gifts are preferred.

lol thanks for all ur help ladies! honestly, i dont mean to be tacky but we dont have room or any need for any more gifts. further, we're not telling people how much to spend but if they chose to spend 20 bucks, then please give 20 bucks in cash/check. there are also some ladies who have responded and are NO where near getting married yet- just wait til you get closer and then let me know how u feel about these things lol

In all seriousness, I'm with you.. not because I don't WANT gifts, but we don't have the space in our apartment for gifts. If we did get gifts we would have to either a) return them or b) keep them at our parents' house for when we want to use them.
I don't want to be tacky either but I do want people to know the space that we have is limited.
exactly! half of our bridal shower gifts are sitting unopened on our kitchen floor and the other half are in my parents basement :(

speaking from someone who is married and did recieve gifts, no offense deal with it, some people enjoy giving gifts because they want you to have special items for your home that you can always have to remember them by.
also i too had limited space for all of my gifts, but in the future you will probably need these items and you will not have to go out and buy them
if u had a registry still available then you still had stuff that you registered for and wwanted to get

if your really that concerned. Leave your BBB registry up and delete any others. you can return your BBB stuff for cash, so that way the people still feel good about buying a gift and you can get what you really want- money
THIS...
BLAH,BLAH, BLAH TO TACKY... You know what they say, opinions are like ***holes.

This is what i did. I deleted my BBB registry after my shower and opened one of these. Guests will feel good if they think they are contributing to your honeymoon. Plus, guests will never really know what you used the honeymoon registry money for.

do NOT agree with this at all. Yes, I'd PREFER cash, but a wedding isn't a fundraiser. If you can't afford it, don't do it.

Crashing. Do a Honeymoon registry! We got a lot of money from this and people from outside the NY area felt like they were giving us a gift. It was a win/win

that is really the meanest thing i've ever read on here. why would u say that to someone? I was asking for advice on HOW to bring it up, not what your opinion was about it. if you cant provide useful advice then why even comment at all?? so shocked

If that is the meanest thing you've read on here, consider yourself sheltered.
And yes, it's TACKY to ask for cash or checks. There is no proper way to do so. If you wrote anything about preferring cash or checks, I would certainly find a way to give you a big old heavy box!

WOW you girls are just nasty. this board is supposed to be about supporting each other. and yes this is the meanest thing ive read on here. i've never read any brides attacking others and their choices.
read my original post which was asking HOW i could say we prefer cash over gifts b/c we have too much stuff already. we're not asking people what to get us but if they want to get us something, then thats what we prefer. i already solved this problem so i dont understand why more rude people keep responding.

If you post on a public forum, you need to settle down and expect responses from both sides.
If you want to know HOW to beg for cash, the answer is: use very tacky words.

Maybe we're trying to save you from being embarassed? Because if this is what we're saying, this is what your guests will be saying when they see your invite asking for cash.
No matter how tactfully you ask for it, it's still not proper etiquette to ask for a gift with your wedding invitation, and it's even worse to specify cash.

Every couple in the history of the universe has wanted everyone to bring them money to their weddings. There's no couple who's like 'gee I hope we get a crapload of gifts'
