Cat still missing (UPDATE 7-23-10) Its been 2 weeks

We have seen him a few times but he is so scared that he runs and hides. The vet told us not to take it personal bc he has no claws and he sees everyone as a threat but i still cant help but cry.
i miss the little guy so much and so does my other cat. he sits at the door crying all night.
tonight we put up a cat trap. hopefully it will work.
i have barely slept in a week.
does anyone have any ideas to how i can catch a scared lost indoor kitty ??

This is horrible! So sad!! At least you know he's alright though. Definitely keep trying with the trails of food! Just try and be really patient.

He is such frightened cat inside the house. he only comes to us, he hides when ppl are around.
I just cant seem to keep him in one spot and he didnt run out the front door, he jumped off my deck onto the shed and down the gate so im trying to get him to come in the front door.
do i just leave the front door wide open ??

My indoor cat got out a window once and hid in the bushes for a day and a half. I just left the front door wide open with some tuna fish (her favorite) and eventually she came back in. I found that shaking toys and food startled her more. I sat there most of the day too.

He'll come back in when he feels comfortable enough to come out from under the bushes.

Did you sit there with your door open or u just left it open and hoped he would come in for the food ??
i dont know if he will come to the front door bc that wasent the way he got out
he got out one other time and was gone for 3 weeks, i havent slept im so worried about him
last time we had to corner him but my neighbors got a new fence so now its hard to catch him bc he can squeeze underneath it

ugh... On one hand at least you have seen him around and know he's 'ok'. On the other hand having him not recognize you guys and come straight up to you is heartbreaking.
This is kinda silly.. but if it were me and my dog (or cat), i'd carry their fav. toy or food around with me EVERYWHERE in case I saw him again I'd be prepared with something that's familiar to him.

thats exactly what i have been doing. he doesnt really play with toys so i have his favorite treats and i hear him answer me when i call him but he is so scared he doesnt comeout.
does anyone know anything about leads ?

Oh noooo... well, i dont know if it will help but my mom swears that everytime her cat gets out(which is rare) and she is really upset she calls me and i tell her' dont worry he will coem abck' and every time he does..... So Im sure your kitty will come back!! he will get hungry and cats will amost always go home!!! keep us posted and good luck!!!

I went back and forth. Sat out side then went back in. Eventually she scooted right in the front door.
She didn't leave through the front door either, she got out through a hole in a window screen.
If he's gotten out before and came back, he'll come back again. I know how you feel though, I think I was freaking out the whole time she was outside.

But I hope the cat trap works. Was there a blanket or pillow he liked to sleep on? Maybe put that inside the trap.

He only sleeps with me so I tried putting my clothes outside for him to get my scent. hopefully that will work

I know that you're kitty is declawed, but is there something else wrong? My middle baby had a urinary blockage when he behaved like this. He too was declawed young and immediately after, his behavior became very guarded and nervous. He wouldn't let anyone come near him. I got scared and when I was finally able to grab him, I took him to the vet where they did a urinalysis and found he had a blockage in the tract of his little penis. Cats will hide and crawl low when they're scared or sick. I hope your baby's not sick. If it's just fright, try the catnip route. They love it! Start in the bushes and leave a trail to the inside of the house.

when i was little we had kittens that lived at my parents business and we had a cat at home. once we brought home one of the kittens for the day and after that my home cat took off for a few days, she was upset. she eventually came back but i remember feeling just the way you feel . i feel so horrible and is praying for you to get your little baby! anything that could have made your cat upset? i agree maybe something is up. when you see your cat do you throw treats to see if they will eat it? i would try to make a little trail of treats.

The ASPCA said this is normal for indoor cat with no claws. they become scared and frightened and they wont come out from hiding.
they said he was curious thats y he probably ran out but trying to get him back in is hard bc they are too scared to come out from hiding

I am so sorry he hasn't come back yet! This must be so hard for you! If it makes you feel any better, my cat who is declawed got out a while back and he eventually came back, we found him crying by our front door. When you do see him, is there any way someone could help grab him from another angle? If anything, its good to know that he is still coming around, he is definitely missing you i think so I am sure he will be back before you know it!
