Cat still missing (UPDATE 7-23-10) Its been 2 weeks

Original post by FutureMrsSoltan

We have seen him a few times but he is so scared that he runs and hides. The vet told us not to take it personal bc he has no claws and he sees everyone as a threat but i still cant help but cry.

i miss the little guy so much and so does my other cat. he sits at the door crying all night.

tonight we put up a cat trap. hopefully it will work.

i have barely slept in a week.

does anyone have any ideas to how i can catch a scared lost indoor kitty ??

We know he is hiding between our fence and my neighbors garage. he sits there and meows when we call his name but when we go to grab him he runs past us and jumps through the other neighbors yard.

a good thing is i know he is alive and i know where he is hiding.

just have to figure out the best way to catch him and bring him right to the vet

I used to have so many cats (13 at one time - some were indoor/outdoor and some were strictly indoor. Whenever my indoor ones would get out they would hide in this thin little alley - where a person couldnt fit ... I used to bring the dry food box out with me and also (I know this sounds ridiculous) but the can opener and the canned food. It took a while but they eventually came from the sounds of me feeding them. I would shake the dry food and bang the opener against the cans .. Good luck

Ugh that stinks... Im sorry! Is there a way to put a crate there with food in it and when he goes to eat the food you can close the crate door shut?

We put out a trap but he is too smart for it

I don't know if anyone suggested this, but I would open up cat food cans outside so that the cat would hear that sound. Maybe that will work for yours. The familar sound is linked to the edible reward your cat is used to receiving.

What if you put a box of litter outside since cats are automatically attracted to it. Use a trap but cover it with leaves so he can't see it.

what if you and FH sneak up on him .. you can distract the kitty while FH catches him with a net or maybe put a box over him.... it sounds harsh i know but you seem to have tried everything else.

or get a squeaky toy i have a mouse that squeaks when its dragged or hit.. my cat loves it .. i use it to get her to come inside before we go to bed.

we try the sneaking up on her and that seems to be the way to do it we just need to make a better plan before we try it again because i couldnt catch him

Re: Cat still missing

Hi girls, we would see him everyday around 530pm and tuesday night around 1145pm i heard to cats fighting in my driveway, when i went outside there was no sign of the cats.

we havent seen him since

i am trying to be hopeful but its so hard not to know if he is hurt or even alive.

i tried calling th ASPCA but they keep telling me to call back bc of the high volume of phone calls they are receiving. (mind you i have been calling for 3 days) i dunno how they dont have someone to talk to me.

i have tried everything from bringing his bed outside, to sitting up at night with food by the door, to trying to set the trap with his fav food, to walking around opening cans, to leaving a trail of food to my front door.

i dont know what else to do.

is there someone that i can call to help ???

my mom saying maybe a cat rescue but i cant find anything on the computer, unless im not looking in the right places

what area do you live in? you can try searching some of the private cat rescues in your area, and call and see if they have any ideas. there are some organizations that have people who go out and catch strays to bring them in, its just a matter of sourcing them out. also, try putting up fliers in your area so that if anyone sees him they can call/email you and let you know where and what time so you can try to track him.

i'm so so sorry. i'm a dog person (allergic to cats) but i'm a huge animal lover and always adopt from rescue organizations and i can't imagine what you're going through. i'm fairly resourceful so if you need help finding the agencies that may be able to assist you let me know and i'll see what i can find out.

as for the aspca- great organization but esp. on LI i find them always 'too busy'. FH and I have found 3 stray dogs in the past and have NEVER been able to get aspca to help, we always end up taking the dogs to nearby vet's offices.

let me know if i can help at all!
