Catholic Brides -- are you doing a full mass? Should I just...

Catholic Brides -- are you doing a full mass? Should I just...

I was originally set on a full mass... FH would LOVE to just do a ceremony. This weekend I mentioned it to my mom and I thought she would have a heart attack if I didn't have a full mass but MUCH to my surprise, she was all for the shorter ceremony!! So of course now FH is really pushing for it.... It makes practical sense because it gives us more time for travel, pics, and the receiving line which is all tight right now.

Should I just do the shorter ceremony? If you are doing the full mass, why did you choose that over the shorter ceremony?

I know I wanted the full mass because I think it would be more meaningful that way. FH says it's anti-climactic because there's this whole build up to the wedding part, the bride coming in etc, and then it's like 'let us pray'... rather than 'Do you take...'

What is included if I just do the ceremony? I know communion is out...

It wouldn't bother me THAT much to give up the full mass but I know it would ease FH's nerves immensely and make him happier... what do you thinK?

I am doing the shorter ceremony. Even though its a Sunday and our preist said its only a matter of 15 mins. We are alco pressuerd for time and we feel a ceremony is just enough.

Just doing the ceremony. I don't go to church that much, but when I used to, I used to get so bored.

we are doing the shorter mass... we didnt have a choice on that one but FH is sooooooooo happy about it. We both get a little antsy (bored) when other people have the full mass. I want to get married and get out!!! Besides the regular ceremony is still 30 min anyway.

eta - If I were tight for time I would definitly do just the ceremony rather then rush.

Full Nuptial Mass. This is a Sacrament. I personally feel that it should be a mass.

My sister did a full mass ad i am doing a cermmony, basically the onlydifference is communion. With a ceremnoy i am still ahving the two readings and the unity candle. I am not sure what else is different.

Wait -- I'm confused (or maybe my poll options are confusing)... most of you are saying you are doing the shorter ceremony but the full mass has more votes

We chose to do the full mass. Originally we said we'd just do the ceremony but the more we thought about it, we decided to do the full mass. Neither of us go to church on a regular basis but his mother goes every Sunday and my grandmother is an Irish Catholic, very strong faith (she has even given me, my sister and brother video tapes of the pope for Christmas). Though we both agreed on the mass anyway, we thought it would be nice to have it for them too. I think it will make them very happy and that in turn will make us happy!

We also have 2 1/2 hours of picture time after the church and before the coctail hour so the length of the cermony wasn't an issue.

Ceremony only.

We originally wanted a full mass but then my family started in about how looooong it would be and how it would be almost dark when it was over blah, blah, blah.
I haven’t told the church yet but we are only doing the 1/2 hr cerm. now. I guess an hour is a bit long for people who never go to church.

We chose to do the full mass because as Xjulietx says it is a sacrament and I just feel that it will be more meaningful....

I agree with this 100%. That is the reason why we are having a full mass. I also very religious and very close to the church.

We are having a ceremony (still consists of readings, gospel, etc) and should last about 30-40 minutes. For those of you having a problem getting mass that can be common on a Sunday. Our priest told us that some churches don't do Nuptial masses on Sundays because there aren't enough priests, priests are only allowed to give out Communion a certain # of times per day and our guests always have the option of receiving Communion earlier that Sunday at mass.

ETA - IMO, not having a mass doesn't make it any less of a sacrament. We are still marrying in a church.

We are doing the 'full mass' - but it is called a Eucharist in the episcopal church - but we looked at it this way - We 'hope' that we will only be married once and so we want to do it right, and we felt that what was the point of getting married IN the church if we didn't do the full service. If we wanted just the ceremony we could have been married anywhere outside of the church

I agree. I always wondered why bother getting married in a church if you are not having a mass? If I didn't want a mass I would just get married at my reception location.
