My Fiance and I already have a date and a venue for the reception, but we are having problems finding a ceremony venue. Neither of us are members of a church, or are very religious either. Churches we've spoken with all want us to become members, which we aren't inclined to do. We've called a few places that offer space for ceremonies, but they have all been less than 100 person capacity, whereas we will have around 150. Also, due to the wedding being at the end of October an outdoors ceremony is probably not in the cards. Can anyone recommend a nice venue just for the ceremony that isn't terribly expensive and can manage 150 people? Thanks

Where is your reception venue? Not sure how east you are but there is Jamesport Meeting House in Jamesport. I have no idea what they charge or how many it accommodates. I would assume a pretty large number. Also check Old Steeple in Aquebogue (I feel like I've heard that they don't require you to join, but don't take my word for it). Any other place I can think of would require set up and probably be expensive! Hope this helps!

The reception is at East Wind, so not too far east.

East Wind doesn't have a ceremony area?
You could probably do a polish hall or something out there or maybe a vineyard would be able to rent it's location for a few hours for you.

East Wind does have a ceremony area, but it is expensive, not that nice, and the indoor space may not even be available when our wedding date arrives, as they said they may be expanding the spa into that space.

we just went to a wedding at east wind and the ceremony was at the Jamesport Meeting House. Very very cute place! I think they just asked for a donation.

After a quick search that is a cute place. Do you know the capacity by chance?
EDIT: their site says a capacity of 120, which may be pushing it. Though it does look very cute.

Not everyone shows up to the ceremony. They had over 200 people at their wedding maybe 80 showed up to the actual ceremony.

Could you talk to east wind and see if they could accommodate the ceremony in the estate ballroom? Then they could switch it over while everyone is in the other room for cocktail hr

I should probably have mentioned that we have the Veranda at East Wind, so I don't know how well that would work.

We had looked at them for the reception. Would they even be willing to have just the ceremony?

That's true, but at the same time I don't want to assume people won't come to the ceremony and get a smaller space only to have nearly everyone show up. Then I'd be in trouble.
Riverhead aquarium:.... you could call or email and ask them if they do? i'm sure there is a fee, hopefully not much.... there is also the vineyards wedding hall out here that is down 25....or you could probably email or call Martha Clara vineyard and get married in their 'wedding' barn or just a random vineyard and ask if they have space for a fee
