Re: CH Music - Yes or No?
Russo's actually has a piano that is self playing soft music in the CH room- so we're going to be using that.
Otherwise we'd have our DJ playing soft light music as the guests enjoy the CH.
I don't think your crazy!

Re: CH Music - Yes or No?
I used to play the violin for ceremonies and CH. I am telling you NOONE cares about the music. Noone listens and if they notice 2 songs you're lucky. I am having my band pipe music (Frank Sinatra etc) to the CH. Unless you have steel drums or something original...noone will pay any attention. i guarantee those weddings your mom went to had music at CH but noone notices. Just don't go crazy over it. I was so sure noone listens that I would play Mary had a little lamb a little jazzed up and noone noticed! In fact they would clap if they noticed I just finished a song!

I was thinking the same this...should we have music at the CH? Is it really necessary or are people so busy socializing and eating that they dont even realize it?

Re: CH Music - Yes or No?
We had a guitarist. I was extra. Everyone LOVED it. It was different. I thought it was worth it.
I will have the full band during the reception but only the keyboard at the CH for some background music.

Re: CH Music - Yes or No?
Sorry, but your Mom is wrong. Maybe she just didn't pay attention to the music. I've never been to a wedding or other event that didn't have some sort of music during the cocktail hour. It's not dance music, usually something light, either classical or jazz. Our DJ played old standards like Sinatra, Mel Torme, Tony Bennett, Rosemary Clooney because that is what we like. A bit upbeat but not overpowering to conversation.

Re: CH Music - Yes or No?
its background noise - sometimes its noticed, other times its not.....since we are having a string trio for our ceremony we are going to have them stay and play for our CH, otherwise we would have had our DJ provide music....you might even be able to have the RH play a CD or something - just so there is some music in the background - ive never been to a wedding without CH music but i also dont really notice it either

My rh said that you can give them a cd to play at the cocktail hour so I think that's what I'm going to do. If it's included in your package you might as well use it for cocktail hour!

Re: CH Music - Yes or No?
if you get a band or DJ they should be able to include music for the cocktail hour. Unless you want something really different like steel drums or something, its just best to just who you've already highered, it'll be more cost effective

Re: CH Music - Yes or No?
I fretted over this for a long time, and I even created a thread asking about it.
In the end, I decided not to pay to have music during the coctail hour, but my reception hall will play music for us (the kind that they play in their hallways).
If it's going to cost you extra to have the music during CH, I say not worth it...save it for something else
If it's included in the price, then go for it.

We had violinists, but they were my students; therefore, it wasn't expensive

Re: CH Music - Yes or No?
i have a band for the ceremony.. like a loud indian band.. a dj for the reception.. but the reception is being held all the way top and the CH is 1/2 in and 1/2 out.. so unless I get like a violinist or something to that effect, I am not sure what to do..
maybe my RH can do some music.. so it doesn't look bad.. but with 400 plus guests, i highly doubt anyone will notice..

Re: CH Music - Yes or No?
We are likely having an acoustic guitarist who will play really pretty, mellow covers of Billy Joel, John Mayer, Jack Johnson and everything in between.

Re: CH Music - Yes or No?
We haven't decided on a band yet, but this is all great info. If the band doesn't provide it free of charge. I will definately check with the RH to see if they can play just some CDs during the CH.
My parents aren't music people, so i don't think they understand how it really subtly effects things. My FH is HUGE into music. We always have music playing and crazy speakers that i don't even know how to use. I think my parents have a stereo from 1980. HA HA

Re: CH Music - Yes or No?
our band has a keyboardist do it as part of their package.
otherwise we would have burned cd's to have played.
