I'm getting very sad about having to lose my last name since i'm the last one

FH will be soo disappointed if i dont take his so i'm thining about hypening it but i dunno. Also, all my degrees will be in my last name.

Okay I'm just throwing my last name out there so you can really get the full effect. It is Bologna, the city in Italy. However no one ever understands that (except when I was actually in Italy) and has referred to it as the coldcut since I was in kindergarten always mispronouncing. I have been tortured 'My bologna has a first name it's J-E-N-N-A' 'I bet I know what your favorite coldcut is!!' lol and cannot wait to change it to FH's which is so simple and easy to pronounce hahaha

totally feel your pain..... greek last names are pretty bad too..... let just say i used to be called 'Var-donuts' lololol still cracks me up..... FH's last name isnt easier either -- starts with 'Kt' and no, the t is NOT silent haha, too bad im not marrying a smith

lolololol oh the pronunciation dilemmas haha

Top this one- my FH's last name is moronta. When you pronounce it correctly it doesnt sound so bad, but my brothers cant get over it and make fun of him all the time... they're worse than the kids in grade school!

but im changing my last name to his because im super traditional and i want my kids to have the same last name as me.

HOWEVER i hate the fact that im losing my last name....i have a big, vowel filled Italian last name that jus sounds so good with my first name!!! so going from a 4 syllable italian last name to a 1 syllable german last name is gonna be really friggen weird....

BUT i have no choice

edited for spelling

Same here! I'm going from Sorrentino (nice long Italian name) to Seylar (pronounced 'Si-ler' a short German name). But at least I get to keep my initials

FBIL decided to play around with his mother (my FMIL) yesterday telling her I wasn't going to change my name. Yea, that'll make for an interesting conversation next time I see her......

I will be changing mine even though I kinda get sad when I think about it. I'm going from an Italian name I am used to always having to pronounce/spell for people to Johnson which is so easy.

I am not changing my last name, and I get such negative comments from people!

I don't know why people feel so heated - its my decision, why should anyone care if I keep my last name!

I dont know what to do. I like my last name, but my daughter has her father's last name (im getting married to her stepdaddy). So i don't want the three of us with three different last names.
but if I change it, I feel like she's left out.

What should I do?

I would like to keep both and hyphernate but Fh disagrees and wants it to be only his last name. This is something I wont give into.

LOL ya that should be fun!!!

i been practicing writing my 'new' last name, like a signature and stuff....i don't see how that's ever gonna get to be comfortable or natural...its soooo awkward!!!!!!!

Re: changing or keeping last name?

I want to keep my name. FH wants me to either hyphenate or take his. I guess I still have time to decide. Realistically, his name is shorter and easier to spell (perfect for a teacher). he said we should ask his mom about me not taking his name, and she said i could do whatever i wanted, so he wasn't happy with that result.

I am changing it. FH's last name is Brown. Super easy to pronounce and brings me up to the beginning of the alphabet.

My mom asked me the other day and I told her that I will be changing it FH's. Then she said, what about all your degrees and professional licesne. And I said nothing to her. I don't know what to do.

FH said he would be 'delighted' if I took it. How could I say no

i will be changing mine. i have a polish last name and people spell it wrong and pronounce it wrong my entire life.

i'm happy to change to a very simple last name but i think as i get closer i will be sad about losing my identity.

i can also see people calling out my new name like at a dr's office and me not responding because im not used to it lol
