Cheney Caught in Lie!

Original post by Kel

Cheney blasted Edwards for a poor attendance record, and claimed he had never met the senator before their Vice Presidential debate .. I guess this photo is a lie!

In addition, (as quoted from JohnKerry.com) .. this is what Cheney said at the time ...

Cheney Thanked Edwards At the National Prayer Breakfast. Addressing the National Prayer Breakast, Cheney said: “Thank you. Thank you very much. Congressman Watts, Senator Edwards, friends from across America and distinguished visitors to our country from all over the world, Lynne and I honored to be with you all this morning.” [FDCH Political Transcripts, Cheney Remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast, 2/1/01]

Clearly Edwards dropped the ball on not firing back with this meeting .. HOWEVER .. Cheney by far made the bigger blunder .. if you're going to launch an attack, make sure you get the facts straight.

It is possible that people are still marginally for bush and Iraq, but I wanted to show you a little article I found this morning

Iraq Poll on CNBC

(which also helps solidify yesterdays arguement about the danger of vesting too much in polls )

That article references the original reason for going to war in Iraq. What don's referring to is the current plan and handling of Iraq. Two very different things.

Yes I know, I just think it is interesting how people can be so dualistic. it amazes me that people can agree that entering is unjustified but another poll states that the current policy is effective. Can you really have it both ways? I'm not convinced

Point taken.

talk about people being dualistic

now i'm gonna get flamed

on sept 12, 2001, all of us were saying 'kill kill kill'

women and children in arab countries were dancing in the street at our expense and we said 'kill kill kill'

bush's regime goes on a mission and captures key terrorist leaders

we cheer

bush's regime captures hussein

we cheer

Iraqi TV shows a few beheadings and some acts of brutality vs. our soldiers

we say that we should never have been there, we're hurting innocent civilians and we need to get out of there

amazing

I did not cheer...even on September 12.

When they showed the children cheering on TV, I was angered by the media for staging this....they had a cake for cr@p sake.

I think the brutality is awful, and I feel for those who suffer.

I did not understand why we had to capture Saddam at that moment, but rather I wondered why we did not do it when it was relevant in 1991.

Maybe people cheered, but not all, and not everyone had the same reaction after Sept. 11. I actually got into all out screaming matches with DH about the initial invasion, even though I lost friends that day.

Emotions should not rule when determining someone elses fate.....JMHO

(and I am not flaming you, because there are those who did EXACTLY what you said. But there were people from the very beginning who were pleading 'not in my name.')

Ok. I'm not dualistic at all. Never, not even on Sept 12, did I say 'kill! Kill! Kill!' Inf act everyone's cowbooy revenge mentality disgusted and frightended me. I never felt that we should 'retaliate.' Capture those, responsible and put them to justice, yes. 'retaliate?' Absolutely not. All Bush said after 9/11 was 'retaliatthis, retaliate that' and to me, that's frightening. When someone else murders people in teh name of what they believe in and to fight against some ills they feel have ben done toward them it's terrorism, when the US does it, it's retaliation. EXCUSE ME?

Absolutely not. I never supported retaliation, or a 'kill kill kill' mentality.

When Bush suggested going into Iraq I was prepared to believe him but I wanted proof. I scoured the papers everyday, and watched every address waiting for the proof that never came. They made broad assertions and never gave ONE shred of logcal evidence or connection that Iraq had anything to do with 9/11. I did not support the war. Not from Day 1. I was one of the many college students who protested the war on campus and wore 'No War' on my clothing back in MArch 2003. As more and more information has come in about this was, including Abu Ghirab I have become more and more disgusted. Never duplicitous.

Even if someone did support the war at first, because he ro she BELIEVED what the president told Americans (which we should, by the way, be able to do)< and then later, when faced with more evidence decided that it had been a mistake, I think that takes a lot of character and maturity and I have a lot fo respect for those people. I have no respect for people who choose to ignore new information.

How can you ignore Monday's report?

let me clarify, when i say 'we', i mean broadly

of course there are exceptions

I think the EXCEPTION is the morons who cheered while Baghdad burned.

I understand...just clarifying

and you are right ....maybe those people who are dualistic should really examine what causes their reactions/beliefs.

Maybe, but I think the best way to prevent all the 'flip-floping or dualism' is to educate ourselves. Then we have no one to blame but ourselves

ETA: too many people just take what the media reports as gospel. Maybe it is easier that way, but truly not effective.

I'm just nauseated that there is such a thing as an Annual National Prayer Breakfast that my tax dollars are paying for ...

Why does that nauseate you???

Umm..separations of church and state? With schools failing and so many people wihtout proper food, housing or health insurance, why should my hard earned $$ go to a prayer breakfast?

Unfortunately that is but an idea only & not often defended...like freedom of speech These things that Americans used to fight so furiously for have gone to the wayside

Maybe if we had a little more spirituality taught wouldn't be such a bad thing..Why should my hard earned dollars go to people who take advantage of the welfare system ( get a job) I mean I am by know means well off but I do or take whatever job i can to make my ends meet.

I don't cry or whine about the injustice!

It's sad that a few bad apples spoil the bunch. The majority of people on social service assistance aren't taking advantage- there are people out there who do need the help.

Maybe, but when a 9 year old girl gets suspended for not saying 'god' during the pledge you have to admit that something is wrong.

Not everybody has the same brand of spirituality.

Also, it is not whining, it is democracy....it is your right to go to your local representatives & tell them, what you thing is failing in this democracy.

Is this thread about:

1) flaming people
OR
2) having a healthy debate

We should all agree to disagree!

Re: Cheney Caught in Lie!

We live ina country founded on th principles of religious freedom. Spiritualty does not belong in public schools or public policy. A 'prayer meeting' only represents the interests (i'm assuming) or christians. Not everyone is christian, and even many of those who are (including myself) do not approve of the use of federal funding toward religious ends.
