Cheney Caught in Lie!

Original post by Kel

Cheney blasted Edwards for a poor attendance record, and claimed he had never met the senator before their Vice Presidential debate .. I guess this photo is a lie!

In addition, (as quoted from JohnKerry.com) .. this is what Cheney said at the time ...

Cheney Thanked Edwards At the National Prayer Breakfast. Addressing the National Prayer Breakast, Cheney said: “Thank you. Thank you very much. Congressman Watts, Senator Edwards, friends from across America and distinguished visitors to our country from all over the world, Lynne and I honored to be with you all this morning.” [FDCH Political Transcripts, Cheney Remarks at the National Prayer Breakfast, 2/1/01]

Clearly Edwards dropped the ball on not firing back with this meeting .. HOWEVER .. Cheney by far made the bigger blunder .. if you're going to launch an attack, make sure you get the facts straight.

I seriously feel like I lot of people just repeat things and tell others they're wrong without presenting a hint of a logical argument just 'you're wrong. michael moore aid so, so it has to be true' ..I don't see that as a valid argument.

Umm..separations of church and state? With schools failing and so many people wihtout proper food, housing or health insurance, why should my hard earned $$ go to a prayer breakfast?

Maybe if we had a little more spirituality taught wouldn't be such a bad thing..Why should my hard earned dollars go to people who take advantage of the welfare system ( get a job) I mean I am by know means well off but I do or take whatever job i can to make my ends meet.

I don't cry or whine about the injustice!

I don't think that pointing out that funding towards an obviously religious brunch is against our constitution is whining or crying. It is pointing out that we have other issues in this country that deserve funding.

Maybe, but when a 9 year old girl gets suspended for not saying 'god' during the pledge you have to admit that something is wrong.

Not everybody has the same brand of spirituality.

Also, it is not whining, it is democracy....it is your right to go to your local representatives & tell them, what you thing is failing in this democracy.

Spirituality and religon completely two different things. So there is no brand to spiritulaity. What is the problem with saying God??? Insert what ever higher power you believe in.

what if you don't believe in a higher power at all.. what if you don't want to be spiritual at all..?

Re: Cheney Caught in Lie!

Some people don't believe in a higher power at all. And when people sy 'god' they usually mean the Judeo-Chritsian version. WHat about polytheists? If you mean 'whatever higher power you may or may not believe in' then say that..not god. Spirituality belongs in churhc, temple, synagogue, home, wherever, not governemt. Because the government shouldn't put religion into it's policy making decisionsand shouldn't spend my money to fnd religious endeavors. That's not separation of church and state. that's forcing ME to support a religion I may not believe it, at least financially and in the laws and policies I will have to live with.

A lot fo republicans on this board in particular accuse others of not having the facts, and getting their facts from what they consider dubious sources such as the oh so liberal washington post, and Michael Moore. Even if the sources ARE dubious, which I don't believe they are, these accusers aren't presenting anything to counter the facts we are presenting, they're just saying 'the medai is biased.' Guess what? There is no 'liberal media' conspiracy. get over it.

Uh, no offense but you are the one that said that people need more spirituality.. I was just answering that comment. I know the difference (and the likeness) that exists between religion and spirituality.

The problem is the girl is an atheist and does not believe in god. She was not permitted to insert or not insert anything...they wanted to force her to say God. Why should she be forced to pray to a diety that she does not believe in?

well at nine I am not sure you can make the decision but if you are agnostiv or atheist then be that but when god is mentioned in the pledge I don't necessarily think it means one god but a person greater then are selved to watch over us... is that so terrible !

According to an August 2003 article in the Washington Post, President Bush has spent all or part of 166 days during his presidency at his Crawford, Texas, ranch or en route. Add the time spent at or en route to the presidential retreat of Camp David and at the Bush family estate in Kennebunkport, Maine, and Bush has taken 250 days off as of August 2003. That's 27% of his presidency spent on vacation. Seems like alot of 'working vacations'. JMO

First of all, you must must must look at where you are getting this information from. The Washington Post is one of the most liberal papers in the entire country. That's first of all. Second of all, this was in Farenheit 9/11 so I guess since Michael Moore AND the Washington Post said it, it must be true.

First, I do do do look at where I get my information. I also know that Bush's Vacation days are a matter of Public Record. Second, the # given in MM movie was 42%. I am not the kind of person that just believes everything put in front of me. I do my own independent thinking and research. That is something that I always do.

Maybe its what her parents are teaching her, as is their right. Also, I know some pretty intelligent 9 year olds who could really impress you if you had a conversation with them (I know some that don't have a clue either, but you understand my point).

And I see nothing wrong with spirituality, but I don't think it should be imposed upon anyone.

When you where 9 weren't you the religion your parents brought you up to be?

I remember being in Elementary school and having Jahovea (sorry I can not spell that) Witness kids in my class. They didn't stand up during the pledge had to leave the class room when it was someones birthday and we had cup cakes.

Oh yes. I remember that scenario too. I felt bad for them b/c they stuck out like a sore thumb. That is very hard for a child to be different in a way that most people do not understand.

Bush not being at the White House does not mean that he was on vacation. The documented evidence that the Post and Moore both claim as vacation days are quite simply days that were not spent at the White House. If I were the leader of the free world, I think I'd need a change of scene sometimes to get my thoughts straight. His advisors go with him basically everywhere he goes so that he can continue to work so calling it a vacation is what I was talking about.

I honestly didn't mean to imply that you, in particular, do not question information, I just believe that this is an inaccurate representation that has been spun by two extremely liberal sources.

No need to be general here - you are directing this at me. I'd much rather have you say 'eogara said'.

See my post back to Heidla, it explains my reasoning.

Actually, no. You're not the 'Only' one that such things could be said about. In fact, Often times I am more apt to respect your arguments, because they are actual arguments as opposed to 'Well I'm right and you're wrong because my Mommy said so.'

Edited for spelling.
