I have alot of young children in my family. I am talking like about 20 kids. I do not feel that a wedding is the place for children. Is it bad not to invite the children. My mother thinks I am crazy. I just feel that the kids that are in the BP should be there and thats it. What do YOY THINK?

Re: Children at the wedding
I love children. I would not mind having them at a wedding, but I chose not to have them at mine. I wanted some at my wedding and not others. Since I felt I couldn't pick and choose who I wanted, it was best not to have any. Having children at your wedding does not make your wedding less classy. It does not take away from you and it won't ruin your wedding. But when you have family members that are fighting because their kids can't come to the wedding, you have to think about what's most important; relationships in the family or just adding 2 kids to the guest list.

Re: Children at the wedding
I had a couple bring their newborn. They swore up and down that they would not do it. They brought the baby and didn't even say one word about it. As if we wouldn't realize. Then, another person brought her daughter as her 'guest.' It was totally rude. Who does that? BUT, to tell you the truth I saw the baby and the other girl for two seconds throughout the entire day. It was no big deal and they weren't on my side, so I didn't have to deal with them, my MIL did. I wouldn't stress over it because honestly people are rude and do what they want. We just can't control it.

IMHO weddings are no place for children, at least my wedding (no offense to those of you who chose to have children there). I've lost that battle though, FMIL insists that children be there (almost all of whom I've never met) and FH is wishy-washy on the issue. It sounds so silly, esp. because I'm not having a choc. fountain at the reception, but all I envision is a child going up to this choc. fountain and washing their hands in it and then running right through the dance floor flailing their choc. arms about, getting my dress all covered in choc. I know it sounds crazy and I've never come across a child this reckless, but everyone is allowed a crazy fear (no matter how unrealistic) about their wedding

Hmmm, a child running up to a fountain and doing that is really the fault of their parents for not watching the kids. I guess if someone is forced to invite kids then they should tell the parents that the children MUST be watched at every moment.

I would agree NO KIDS...but that backfired on me. I was forced to invite them anyway...I guess it varies with each family..Good luck
That is exactly what almost happened to me. FH & I then reached a compromise on not inviting kids under the age of 10 on the theory they wouldn't truly understand what was going on. Well, guess what?? There is an LIW bride with a 9 year old daughter and me the big NO kids person decided that 9 was close enough to ten to invite her (besides since her father just married her step-mother, I think she truly gets it!)

Re: Children at the wedding
It is such a personal issue - and obviously one that inspires passion on both sides of the spectrum. I have seen both ways go beautifully - and horribly wrong.
For me... I have 2 children and my life pretty much revolves around them. I consider the wedding to be OUR day - mine, FH's and our childrens. To that end, I am inviting many children - all of my friends with kids are invited to bring them. I think my boys would be less well behaved if they were the only kids at an all adult affair... and I really want them to enjoy themselves as well. I think the chances of them having a good time are increased if they have some other kids available. I plan to have an area set up for them with a couple of babysitters so that the kids can have fun and be occupied - and also allow their parents to have some fun without needing to be on top of their offspring every 3 minutes.
Now - maybe I feel this way because i am a mother - but children delight me. I think they bring some little extra delight. I love to see things through their eyes - and having them there to share, enjoy and celebrate is very important to me. I can't WAIT!
But again - it is a completely personal issue! Some brides would find that having children at the reception is a distraction or disruptive. It may stress them out or lessen their enjoyment of the day. But for me... I love it!
We are havng no children (other than my FH's nieces whom are our flower girls) at the wedding. I have been to too many weddings where children were running rampant and taking over the dance floor soooo no kids for us!
