I see many posts about chocolate fountains but they do nothing for me. IMO all it takes is one person to double dip and the whole chocolate supply is contaminated. Maybe I am a hypochondriac but to me it just asks for problems. I prefer seafood as a guest.

thank you! I thought I was the only one. I think they are a chocolate disaster. The chocolate splatters all over the guests, the table the floor... I think the seafood is elegant and different.

I am often afraid to post my opinion on chocolate fountains for fear of getting reamed. I think they are nice in theory but could be a breeding ground for colds and disease. Not everyone is as couth as you'd like to think they are.

I love the fountain. I have SO many guests who were allergic to some sort of seafood, but noone I know of is allergic to seafood.

if you like the fountain idea... a champagne or martini fountain might be a nice alternative as well.

I suppose we all have those special things that we pay extra for. I am paying extra to have a sushi bar rather than a sushi table because I always liked it when I saw the people rolling the sushi in front of you and at least I know they will have washed the hands and are wearing gloves.

Well to us it was pretty obvious...we did the fountain! And there were no double dippers (the Maitre 'D was in charge of this)...as you could see in the pictures on my review... it was very neat and orderly...no chocolate splattering on guests. But it's a personal choice. We had passed coconut shrimp, a shrimp gourmet grille and zuppa de pesce during CH so a seafood boat would have been overkill for us.

I will not ream you ladies. You're entitled to not like them.
I however, LOVE LOVE LOVE Chocolate Fountains. I voted for it, not only becuase I am getting one, but because I think it will be appreciated more. The Seafood Boat comes out at cocktail hour when there are hords of other foods and inevitably there will be tons of leftover seafood and it might be a waste. Chocolate Fountain comes out during cake and coffee and unless you are getting a huge venetian hour to go with it, it will be the main event, used by most of your guests and will be very welcome with coffee and cake. JMHO!
Ultimately, do what you think you and FH will enjoy the most and what your guests will enjoy.

I would say seafood boat...the chocolate fountain does nothing for me. I think people really enjoy the CH and would enjoy the seafood boat. Also by the end of the wedding many people are stuffed ...that just my opinion

personally i don't eat seafood so a seafood boat wouldn't do anything for me. and i LOVE chocolate!!
however, i know FH would love a seafood boat, as would his family. it's just too much money for us (as are most things).
so i voted for the fountain, but think the seafood is more practical for a lot of guests.

It's really personal preference, but I tend to stay away from cold seafood bars at cocktail hrs. You never know how long that's been sitting even if it's over ice.
There is more of a chance for bacteria to be spread on that than even a double dipper.
Also the allergy issue for some shellfish. I love the sushi idea and I had that. I don't know why I felt more secure with that than the seafood boat/bar but because it was being made fresh maybe?

I LOVE chocolate but I love seafood more so I voted for the seafood boat. I think either will be lovely.
