The only thing that I have seen about the chocolate fountain is that EVERYONE needs to stand at the same fountain and get their desserts. Kids will crowd around and never leave. I just envision it a huge traffic jam.

Re: chocolate fountain vs. seafood boat
I am a big fan of Chocolate. However, I do appreciate Leslie's concerns with the double dipping. I will certainly have my Maitre D police the CF.
I voted for the chocolate fountain, FH says seafood boat. From what I have seen with the chocolate fountain, you don't eat the stuff right there, you put your chocolate on your stuff and then move away to let the next person have their turn and then you eat. I wouldn't see too much of an opportunity for double dipping, unless people are just standing there and eating, which not only would be disgusting, but rude as well because no one else would get a chance to sample chocolate goodness.

I say the boat! i have been to many weddings recently this year and all but one had the fountain and only one had the boat- so yes it is popular but i think the boat is a different kind of choice that people dont always get...there are lots of seafood lovers out there and chocolate as well, so you cant go wrong with either

We're doing the seafood boat. Personally FH isn't crazy about the fountain, he thinks its messy and over-rated but that's just his opinion. I think though by that point of the night people are full and we just decided to do the boat at the cocktail hour. I guess its all personal opinion.

i voted seafood because i have been to weddings that when they open the chocolate fountain during dessert, it has completely killed the wedding... everyone heads over there, stops dancing and then all the guests just started leaving! i personally want my guests to have so much fun dancing that they hardly notice that dessert is being served!
i have always seen guests go gaga over the seafood bar during cocktail hour!

Re: chocolate fountain vs. seafood boat
I wish I could have seafood to be honest. My temple isnt a kosher one rather kosher style which means no shellfish or pork. The sushi will more than likely be the fake seafood which suits me fine because you never see real crab in a California roll even in the best of sushi restaurants. My caterer does offer the chocolate fountain and says we can have it if we want it but it ends up being a disaster. Our dessert selections will be more than enough. If it isnt there, nobody will miss it.

I agree. It's really difficult to eat the chocolate while it's still wet and dripping. You really need to let it cool and harden, thus go back to your seat first. So, I'm not worried about adults double-dipping. Now, maybe little children might double-dip, but the only children at my wedding will be my sister's kids and my FBIL's kids and they will both watch them.

Thisis why I am not having a Viennese Hour/Table. I refuse to have people run from the dance floor to the desserts when we are paying what we are paying for our entertainment. The desserts will be plentiful enough. Nobody should have to wait on line for a dessert. JMO.

Re: chocolate fountain vs. seafood boat
Well, now I'm torn because I want people to dance but I also want them to enjoy dessert. We will have the cake, coffee, pastry tray at every table, an international coffe bar with cordials (all included) and we're adding the chocolate bar, because if anything FH and I deserve it (he, he). So inevitably some people will leave the dance floor. But hopefully they will get back up and dance. I remember not even knowing there was a Chocolate cordial table at my sister's wedding because I was too busy dancing until FH, who hates to dance, had to run up on the dance floor and give me one.

Re: chocolate fountain vs. seafood boat
I don't eat cold seafood, but I know a lot of people who do. I just get nervous about it, since I don't want anyone to get sick from bad seafood.
I like the chocolate fountain, but as someone stated you do have some guests children especially crowd around the table. I never saw it splattered though, and never saw anyone double dip, kids probably would though. I always thought the chocolate fountain would be good during cocktail hour. I wish they had that option.

Re: chocolate fountain vs. seafood boat
I don't really like seafood. However, I have tasted the chocolate fountain at various locations, and I can't say that I liked it at all. IMHO it didn't taste like real chocolate, more like spun sugar. (obviously, I'm not having either) Instead we went with a full viennese.
As for the concerns about double dipping into the chocolate my suggestion would be go to a bridal showcase with a fountain and watch and see how often (if at all) it happens.

I say..seafood boat. I feel the same way about the ickiness of the chocolate fountain.
seafood seems more elegant.

Re: chocolate fountain vs. seafood boat
Now I LOVE seafood, but I think as a guest I'd be more excited about a chocolate fountain. Maybe because I've never been to a wedding with one before, so the concept is totally new to me (don't forget, I'm originally a Boston girl, where they pay for hors derves per person!). I figure I can get good seafood anytime...but how often do I get to see a chocolate fountain? That's my vote!

Re: chocolate fountain vs. seafood boat
honestly i'd rather not have either. we currently have the seafood boat because FH wanted it, but we already have so much food at cocktail hour they kept adding stuff and we have a mini viennesse so chocolate fountain isnt necessary either.
but he wants his seafood boat lol

I don't like seafood at all, so I voted for the fountain. They set up the display so nicely!
