Re: Choosing a reception hall

I got married at Smithtown Landing it and it $62 pp I think it might be $70pp now for sat. night. I think I also have read that Sunset Harbor is in your price range. I have never been there though.

Keep researching. There are places in that range. Or think about keeping your guest list down in size -- that will help with the reception costs. There are options.

We really did luck out! When we first went, the guy told us $130 for a Sat night in Oct, but about 3 days later he called and said that they could give us that day for $85. I really wanted Oct. 13, but it was booked and I had to settle for Oct. 6 (it was a number thing w/me, I love the number 13). Since I fell in love w/that place and it was the first place we looked, I was all over that price! We ended up changing from the vienna trays to the full-viennese the week before the wedding, so that's how it went up to $91 (plus tax and gratuity of course). I was very HAPPY with the price and the service and the food and every single thing (I think we've discussed this before, right?).

And, don't forget, I was looking at halls back in 2000! I'm sure the prices have gone up AGAIN since then! It's disgusting the prices of some of these places.

I have to say that you can not go by what others are paying becuase it really depends on the menu, time of day, day of the week and the season. We booked a popular catering hall and 1 week later it would have been triple the price. I highly recommned the book by Denise and Alan fields 'how to Have a realistic wedding on a budget' Good luck! Also I have saved a lot of money by doing everything early, everyone thought it was a big joke to have A 2 year engagement, but it saved us a lot of money. And we only have 18 months left!!! I got my gown for 600.00- sample in the store,And I am not a size 2! no offense here please., went directly to manufacturer for the yarmaulkes, went to QVC outlet in Pennyslvania for the BM gifts and Bed bath and Beyond , and the rest I just shopped for the best price around. I highly recommned going to the QVC outlet in West Chester , PA. it is in a strip mall, and while you re at it go to Studio Park and get the tour! our wedding is going to look like we spent a bundle on it, when we really spent about 15,000 when all is said and done.

Re: Choosing a reception hall

Like Natasha said- is that your range with or without the tax and gratuities? That might be a tough find. But I do know that if you choose a day wedding, it's cheaper. If you choose a holiday or an off season, like January and February, it will be less. When I went to Chateau Briand, i almost got married on a thursday because it was so much less and believe it or not, they showed me that plenty of people are getting married on thursdays now. But I still don't think you're gonna find too many places that can meet that price on a prime month or saturday night with tax and gratuities included. I would just call a hall and since they won't really quote you over the phone, just say your range and ask if they can meet it- that way, you won't waste your time, you know? If you book close to a date, like 3 months before, it's cheaper too but who wants plan a wedding in three months unless you have to? Good luck!

Crest Hollow quoted us 80 PP for a Saturday or Sunday afternoon in May. We wanted a Saturday night, so it's now 108 PP for us. I would guess that off season, meaning Dec-March, it would be considerably less. You could probably get them down to around 70-75 for an afternoon affair.

Good luck!

Wow you guys did get really lucky!! We're so happy that we booked Floral Terrace. I've heard so many good things about them and the Sand Castle. And even though we're paying more than we expected, we're getting A LOT for our money. Plus they gave us a free 10 day honeymoon stay at their hotel in Crete!! We're soo excited to go to Greece for our honeymoon. I can't wait!!

You could try 15th & West at the Nassau Bar Association (Philip Stone Caterers). They seem to be typically $80pp and all I have heard are raves about the food, service, and site!

Also, have you considered looking at the Riviera in Massapequa. Their pricing varies depending on the time of year (April was about $70-75 for a Sat.) and it is on the bay--great views! Good luck!

I suggest that you look at the Riviera in Massapequa as well. I think their prices fall into your range. They have one wedding at a time there so that may be a plus for you.

I just thought about Le Cordon Bleu in Queens. My family had both of my grandparent's 80th birthday parties there; and the food is really good.

If you insist on LI, you can also try Chateau La Mer. My brother's wedding was held there, and it was great.

I know not too many people have posted about the place, but I am having mine on a Saturday nite for $50 pp at La Grange. It is not fancy schmancy, but perfect for my second wedding for about 80 people. Good Luck to you.

hey marcella bella

hey, marcella bella, take it easy on Ariana. First of all, it is not 'in the middle of hempstead' it is in west hempstead - where I am from and grew up my whole life. Hempstead and West Hempstead may not be as affluent as some other communities, but did you think someone wouldn't take offense to what you said? Secondly, it is not a diner. and my FH has been to many hockey award dinners there that he said were very decent. Sorry to jump down your throat, but that response really shocked me!

Prices may have jumped at Leonard's, but I would check it out. We expected it to be way out of our price range and were surpised. We were married in late April of '01 and paid about $65 a plate with tax and tips included for all but the Maitre 'd and bridal assistant. It was a Saturday afternoon and we opted for the 3-entree choice option, full cocktail hour, modified viennese hour (cookies, pastry, espresso, cappacino and cordials) and top shelf full bar. Depending on the demand for the room and time of year, you may be able to negotiate a bit. Check the my posting in the vendor reviews and my older posts for more detailed comments. We were very happy with our reception there.

Re: hey marcella bella

about reception halls - you may want to check out 15th and West at the Nassau County Bar association in Garden City. It's a nice place and not well known bc they are not allowed to advertise - I got 80pp for a sat. night, so I'm sure a friday night or afternoon wedding would probably be close to your price range! good luck!
