church time and reception time

church time and reception time

Hi Girls,

I need help or suggestions. I am having a hard time figuring out what time I should get married at the church. My reception starts at 7pm. So i figure the ceremony should be at 4pm. That leaves an hour for the ceremony. But what do the guests do for the other two hours. I also thought that time to get to the reception hall from the church would kill time, until I saw that one of the churches would be 10 minutes away. I'm sure some people will want to stay for the pictures. But what do I do for the out of town guests? What are u guys doing in between the lay over time?

Please help!!!

Re: church time and reception time

My reception starts at 5 and the church is at 2:30. Figure church is an hour and people do hang out. If you have too much time between the church and the reception, many people will not go to the church because they have no where to go to kill time. If you want people at church besides family of course, then keep the two close together. If you don't care who is at church then the time does not matter

my church is at 230pm and my cocktail hour starts at 7pm...i figure inbetween the guests can go home and get changed and ready for the reception...not everyone goes dressed to the church and the church is like 5 mins from where the majority of the people live. the reception is about 45 mins away...so the guest have between 330-6 to go home and relax/get ready...not sure what im doing about the oot guests yet...im sure they can go back to the hotel...i want time to take all my pics and be at my CH....

MY CH is at 1pm- I am thinking of a 10:30 or 11am start!!

This will leave about an hour travel time.

I don't think the time in between should be no more than hour. IMO

I am having my church at 3 and my cocktail hour at 7
I want to have time to take pictures without missing any of my reception
I thought about what my guests would do but i figure that if its too much time between they wouldn't come and i'm fine wth just my immediate family and a few close friends at the ceremony
But it really does vary on what you want because my cousin who is getting maried the same year is having her ceremony at her hall, but her and her FH are taking all their pics before thier ceremony so they have their cermony immediately followed by their reception

My reception starts at 7:00 also. My church is at 4:00 in East Meadow. 20 minutes from the Fox Hollow. When I spoke with my Photo guy he said that is perfect. I am doing all of my pictures at the Fox Hollow and I will be able to make my Cocktail Hour. He said if I plan on taking pictures else where and then the Fox Hollow I may want a bit more time. Hopefully this helps.

I have my church from 2:30-4:30 and I was originally thinking of having the mass start at 3, but now I'm thinking 2:30 because of the amount of daylight available in December plus the fact that I'll have more time in church to take pictures. East Wind is about 45 minutes from my house as well, so that will give guests plenty of time to go to the hotel, relax and change for the reception.

I am trying to figure out the same thing. the latest I can get married is 3:30 and the place i am really considering for reception CH wont start til 8pm, does that seem like a crazy amount of time in between?

I had really wanted an evening wedding but now am thinking afternoon is so much easier to plan around and then I dont end up wearing a heavy dress for 12 hours...

thoughts???

My reception starts at 6 and I am getting married at 3. I think in the interim the guest will be ok. Figure the church is over at 4, going to the RH which is minimum 30 min away. Most halls if they open early will give the guests things in the lobby as well as open up the CH early if they can.

I'm only having a ceremony at church which is 1/2 hour, but with pictures and everything figure an hour. That starts at 2:30. My reception starts at 6:30 which is 20 minutes away. we're allowed to arrive an hour early for pictures so it's not that bad.In between we'll be going to the beach to take some pictures, and our out of town guest are coming back to our house so they can knosh on some cheese and crackers and such before the reception. So in all actuality theres only a 2 hour inbetween with all thats going on.

My reception starts at 7 and I'm having my ceremony at three because my FH doesn't want to see me before the wedding. It sounds mean but I'm not worrying about what everyone is going to do in between

Re: church time and reception time

my reception is at 6:30 - and the church im prob gonna plan for 2:00-2:30 - but the reception is abt an hr away from my house .. also i want a lot of time in between for pics (pics in front of the church - and pics at the reception).

I also agree with Charliesbride - that the majority of the ppl dont go to the church dressed up for the reception - so its enough time for them to shower and get dressed.

Also - what my fam does is that the immediate fam goes over their houses - and has a little celebration in the house - and champaigne and a 6-foot hero is served - while the bride and groom and bridal party go to take pics

also - find out from your reception - how early guests can get there before the reception begins ... i know i was told that there is a seperate room with some hor dorvs for my guest if they arrive up to an and a half early ...

My church is at 2:30pm(full mass) and my CH starts at 6:30pm. They are not very close so it could take approximatly 20-30 minutes from the church.

Take into consideration if you are having a full mass, recieving line at the church as these will take up time. Also if you are taking pictures before or after the ceremony. Most halls will accomidate your guests if they arrive early.

My church is at 3:30 and reception starts at 7:30. Its a 45 min drive. I'm more worried about having enough time for photos than what my guests will be doing. Since mine is on Friday.. I'm not expecting a TON of guests at church especially if they live closer to the reception hall, i doubt they'll drive out to the church unless they are a close friend/family member. Usually your reception hall will serve drinks if guests arrive early.... the way i see it.. we're all adults here.. I'm sure they can be creative & think of something.. even if they go to a diner and have a cup of coffee... I wouldn't worry too much about it.

my ceremony starts at 2:45 and my CH is at 7:30pm. My church is in brooklyn, and the reception is in mineola. it gives us enough time for pictures and time to get there. it is a while to get to the hall from the church...

church is at 3:30 in Queens (but i'm putting down 3 for all the latecomers, including myself!!! )

and the reception is at 6:30 pm

since mine is on a sunday we're not getting a full mass....so i figure we'll be done at 4ish...then pics till 5 pm then head straight to LI....

hope that works!

Re: church time and reception time

My church stars at 3pm and my CH at 6pm, my recetion hall and church are like 10-15 minutes apart, but this leaves me enough time to take my pics so i dont miss my CH. As for the guests, they can go home or except for family will not come to the church we'll see.

Thank you girls so much!!! Your ideas and suggestions helped me relax alittle. I figured it wasn't that big of a deal but I'm glad to see I'm not the only one stressing.

Re: church time and reception time

Our church time is at 330 and our reception is at 800....it's about an hour ride w/o traffic, so we are planning on going straight there to take picts..the guests that attend church will drive to the hotel and hang out there until 730 when the shuttle picks them up...or if they are not staying at the hotel they can just go home...I am not planning on a lot of people at church b/c it's a friday and most people will be at work.
