I wonder what kind of world we'd live in if the people on these boards ran it?
One day I hope you vote for me

Do u mean you think it was right to cancel him? Believe me I have no love for HOward Stern or his show, but I think this is an issue of fairness more than morality.

The point is he is being punishd becasue of Janet's Boob.
That's not entirely true. It's in the media a lot now becuase of the Superbowl. And has been pushed to these meeting rather quickly.
However, this is not something NEW at all. The FCC has been working on Censorship, Indecency, Large Group Owners (Clear Channel, Infinity, Citadel), Cross-ownership (Radio/TV/Newspapers), etc for YEARS.
It's in the Media trades every day and the FCC meeting go on (on a smaller level) constantly.
I think the media really brought it to light after Superbowl and I think Clear Channel reacted to the FCC outburst because of it. They started a Responsible Broadcasting Initiative this week too.
So while I think Janet's Boob pushed it to in front of our eyes, I don't think Janet's Boob started it - just the icing on the cake.

I find it funny that you feel this way yet you have a 'South Park' character in your avatar.![]()
That's sort of the point I was trying to make if you read my other posts.
I am an adult. I can watch South Park or listen to Howard Stern, laugh and move on.
South Park is a terrible show for impressionable people...And in my mind absolutely NOT for young children at all.
I wouldn't cry outrage if it was cancelled or toned down. I think it should be. But I'm not fighting for it either way.

What happened on Howard's show to get him canceled, that hasn't be on his show for the last 10 years?
Also his name was brought into reposts that ahd to do with Janet's Boob, when he had nothing to do with it.
His name is constatnly brought into things. HS was mentioned when Opie and Anthony got kicked off the air too.

But you are saying that parents are letting their children listen to Howard Stern, wouldn't those same parents be letting their children watch South Park?(according to your line of thinking?)

Re: Clear Channel drops the Howard Stern show
I find it scary that the conservative right wing is trying to tell me what I can watch on TV and listen to on the radio. In Europe, there is nudity and all that on TV all the time, and people over there do not seem to have fallen into debauchery. In America we are still sitting w. our heads up our puritanical as*es. I can protect my own kids, thank you very much. And I think kids w. bad parents have a lot more to worry about than hearing the word anal on a radio show.Isnt the FCC chaired by Colin Powells son? Tie in to Bush admin? Yet another deflection tactic w. the election coming up??? Its not that farfetched.

I didn't say parents are 'letting' their children watch/listen to inappropriate things...I'm saying that it's going to happen and if parents can't/won't control it then maybe someone else should.

Re: Clear Channel drops the Howard Stern show
Don't we all live in America becasue we have freedom of speech??This si just another way fro the gov't to take away our rights?
First they don't want gay marriages to take place, then people can't listen to HS, next we can't have abortions. Boy do I hate the country we are living in, little by littel they are trying to take away my rights.
Rights that we claim we are trying to give to other nations, we are taking away form our own citizens. This saddens me.

Re: Clear Channel drops the Howard Stern show
this is not a censorship issue...this is a monopoly that is trying to control the airwaves that I listen to and not let me have a choice or make my own decisions

I don't think it is my job to correct someone else's bad parenting, and it shouldn't have to be someone else's job. I knwo that I certainily don't want that type of responsibility

Then the gov't is supposed to break up monolopies, aren't they?
Yeah right they have bigger things to handle, trying to take away human rights!!!

LOLOLOL
What was said was demeaning to women and racial to African Americans apparenlty. I didn't listen to it, I only ready what was said.
If there was a 5-second delay HS could have bleeped it out and he'd still be on the air. That's one of the things they are debating ... If there was a 5-second delay U2 would never had said F&^k at an awards show last year, Janet's boob would have been blurred out, and HS would have never allowed the word ni%%^r on air.

He is on a delay, and Dead Air Dave, as they call him, is there to bleep out everything bad, he even bleeps things he shouldn't, so what was said could not have been that bad, or offensive., per the normal FCC regulations.

How dare you say this. You should live in a country where you really have no rights and would not be allowed to utter such words.
