Do you plan to make an apperance at your cocktail hour or not? My family says it's not usual for the bride and groom to go. So let me get this straight...I miss hospitality hour, I miss cocktail hour and I have to be locked up in the bridal suite for 2 hours so the guests dont see me? Is it really that important to keep hiding? I feel like I am missing half of the party I paid for! Maybe I'm thinking the wrong way...I dunno. What do you ladies all think?

Re: Cocktail hour - appearance or not?
There's no way I'm missing my cocktail hour! We're doing most of our pics beforehand and using the cocktail hour as an opportunity to say hello and thank everyone for attending. This way, at the recption, we're free to dance the night away. It's your day. Do what YOU want.

Why do you have to miss cocktail hour. Don't most places serve you the same food in the bridal suite? I prefer to stay hidden since especially I switched gowns

Re: Cocktail hour - appearance or not?
I'm going to arrange separate pix @ venue prior to the wedding and a reveal so that we can attend cocktail hour.
From experience (bridesmaid), it's way better to be in the cocktail hour! There's more food and it's more fun!

I would never miss my cocktail hour. I love cocktail hour better than the sit down dinner.

Re: Cocktail hour - appearance or not?
It's not about missing the food for me. REally its about missing the people faces and seeing how much they are enjoying themselves. I want to SEE them enjoy what we are saving so hard for. The food is besides the point because I had gastric bypass 3 years ago so my tummy is tiny. LOL a bit of chicken and I'm good. I am going to switch dresses too but I figure that is prefect...If I go to cocktail hour with my ceremony princess gown and I see everyone at CH especially is they werent at the church then everyone will see me in gown 1. Then when I walk into the reception in gown 2 they will be like 'what the heck??' LOL I just hate the fact that my mom is like 'tradition says no one sees you until you walk into the reception.' To me that was just silly and I guess I'll be the rebellious daughter once again! LOL

This exactly! We missed it to take pictures...if we didn't have to take pictures we would have been there saying hello to everyone

I think that the brides and grooms usually miss their cocktail hour - if they are NOT doing pictures before hand - just for this reason, we've decided to do pictures before the ceremony and to enjoy our entire party.
this
we did photos before our ceremony and missed only about 10 minutes of our CH because we wanted to just sit in the bridal suite for a few minutes to regroup and eat some food. we got most of our 'hellos' out of the way at the CH so i was really happy we went to it bc then we didnt have to spend the whole reception saying hello to people.

Yeah I told my mom last night...Sorry mom but I'm not missing the CH. She just looked at me and then said ok, that might have been an old tradition. You can go to the CH...as if I needed her permission. LOL But i just nodded and smiled.

ladies, keep in mind, you WILL NOT eat at your CH. sorry! people will be pulling you in a million directions. take 5 minutes to throw something down in the bridal suite before you enter the CH.
trust me!!!

I totally agree...thats why we are letting the people chill and eat and then 20 minutes into CH we will stop in for a quick visit! We will eat in our Bridal Suite first!

Re: Cocktail hour - appearance or not?
If I'm not doing pics during CH, I'm showing up! I've only been to one wedding with a bride who did CH - my oldest sister's - and she was also the most rested and at ease bride I've seen. I figure the food had something to do with it Plus, being locked away -- it's not even fun when I'm a bridesmaid UGH I couldn't do that to my friends or myself

Just LOL to your post! So funny the way you worded it. I dont know ANY brides anymore that miss their whole CH! We will be entering ours late.
