Cocktail Hour Time...Please Help!!!

Hi Ladies
Ok...let's just say I was able to switch my time...from 8:30pm cocktail start to a 6:30pm start (Friday night) which do I do? Please think about it for a minute and then give me your honest answer. Keep in mind it's a 5 hour reception because of the viennesse - so the 8:30pm would end at 2:30am and the 6:30 would end at 12:30 - and would possibly do an after hours. Thanks

Honestly, I'm like a grandma. By 12:30 I'd start falling asleep.

I voted for 6:30 (we're doing ours from 6-7).

I'm stressing over this big time..we already have the 8:30 time...but I might be able to switch it to 6:30 - as the 7:30 is already taken so I'd have to do ours before theirs! It's worth me asking right??

i voted for 6:30 -- 2:30am is late, especially if people were working all day before coming to the wedding.... JMO

I think 6:30 start time would work well. I had a 7 pm CH on a Fri night and lots of people showed up before it started. I think 8:30 would be okay, but a little late and many people won't stay at the wedding until 2:30 am. My wedding ended at 1, and most people left around 12:30-12:45.
Do what you feel is best! Try not to stress it too much. Either way it'll be fine.

I would say 6:30... if you had an 8:30 CH that means that people wouldn't be eating dinner until 10:30 at night... I wouldn't like that. Also, I after a full day working and then high-tailing it to a wedding, I'd be so exhuasted that having the wedding go until 12:30-1am, I'd be falling asleep in my wedding cake!

I'm having a Friday wedding, my CH starts at 5:30.

Oh boy..I knew I would start getting upset about the time again as it got closer. What if I'm not able to change it- my attitude after months of being upset - was that it's one day and people should just suck it up! LOL Take a nap before! If it's too late - stay home! LOL I have to think this way or I'll freak out! I'm going there this afternoon to BEG!

I think you have to consider your guests in this one.

A 6:30 cocktail hour means, a bit earlier church, or ceremony.

So, are your guests leaving work early.... etc.

Or, would your guests rather work all day, and then not mind partying until 2:30am.

My vote, personally, would be 6:30.

I would say 630 because many people would not want to stay until 230.

I would say 6:30... I think 8:30 would be too late of an end...

we are getting married on a Friday night - our CH starts at 6:30 and will be 1 1/2 hours long - we are hoping that this gives enough time so that people coming from work won't miss the CH AND will give us enough time to say hello to as many guests as possible - before the reception starts.....our reception starts at 8pm - and was going to be over at 12 but since we are having the VH we are going to end at 1am.

My mom made me feel better last night by saying that the majority of people (close friends and family) will be at the church. My family always goes to the church becasue that actually is the most important part of the day! So..a 3pm church on a friday - honestly most people in my family would go - and for our close friends (they are in our wedding party)!

I would love to do an hour and a half cocktail hour but I know I definitely can't. The next party starts at 7:30 - so they won't do it.

Honestly if people cant get the day off they might miss your cocktail hr and a lot of your guests might not be able to make the seremony if its too early JMO

Re: Cocktail Hour Time...Please Help!!!

this one is REALLY hard....

There are benefits/disadvantages to both...

Benefit to 6:30 - party ends earlier, anyone who wants to continue to party can do so after.

Benefit to 8:30 - more people arrive on time.

Disadvantage to 6:30 - a LOT of people would arrive late due to rush hour traffic beyond their control.

Disadvantage to 8:30 - a LOT of people would leave early - as the shindig is starting soooo late. Most would also eat BEFORE arriving - as after work to 8:30 is far too long to wait to eat for most people.

I voted for 6:30 personally...
