Concerts - which was the best you've ever been too

Original post by WithThisRing

I've been watching Cher on tv and on the American Idol thread 2 girls and I were talking about Cher. One said she saw her in concert and loved her.

Which was the best concert you've ever been too??

For me it was Billy Joel. I traveled to Connecticut to see him. He was amazing.

Close up there was way back I saw Boyz II Men. My boyfriend at that time his father is a big shot lawyer and knows Boyz II Men's lawyer and got us 3rd row center stage tickets.

I think my favorite was at Walnut Creek in Raleigh, NC when I saw Human League, Howard Jones and Culture Club in 98. It was pouring rain with thunderand lightning and they were all great. I think I also really liked Lallapolooza in 92 when Red Hot Chili Peppers were playing - though I had a horrible headache and that made me HATE Ministry forever.

Best Nassau Veteran's Memorial Col. Shows

1.) Queensryche - 1991 - I still think about it.
2.) Grateful Dead - 1990. Awesome show!
3.) Kiss - 1996 - Kicked major butt!

Best Jone's Beach Show

1.) Poison/Firehouse/Slaughter 1994 - it was a total blast!
2.) Styxx/Kansas - 1995
3.) D/F/P - 1997?
4.) Foreigner/Journey - 1999

I saw alot of other shows like Depeche Mode (2x), Aerosmith, Scorpions, etc. but they didn't have the WOW effect that the other shows did. In fact, during Aerosmith, I fell asleep

Kiss @ MSG~The only thing my brother and I could agree on was Kiss! We loved them while we were growing up. He bought me the ticket, just he & I went, it was a real bonding experience.

Budweiser Summer Music Fest~1995 (think) Mary J, Boyz II Men, Montell Jordan, Silk etc. That was a great concert

I think Sade was the sexiest concert I have ever seen, by far. She was amazing.

Kool and the Gang (go ahead and laugh) is great in concert because they only play their best songs and it is a fun time!

I also saw Brooks & Dunne (for you country fans) in WY during Rodeo Days and that was amazing because I was in cowboy country seeing them. It was a sea of blue jeans, belt buckles and hats

Re: Jennbaby...

Billy Joel--what we thought was his last concert in 1998-it was AWESOME-we had floor level seats about 15 rows back--completely amazing!

KTU Beatstock was pretty good too---we went in 2001--

Best ever was The Concert for New York City that Paul McCartney threw for the cops/firemen in October 2001 after WTC. The Who brought down the house.

Next: Billy Joel and Elton John in Rice Stadium 1993 (that would be Houston, TX)

After that: Garth Brooks in Central Park, 1997.

Duran Duran - there have been many good ones...but at Jones Beach...summer of 93 they blew my mind!!! they had an opera set designer do their sets and the concert was like an opera!! FANTASTIC!!

The Who...this past summer...just a classic band

Debbie Harry...Ramones...Tom Tom Club - and then when the Tom Tom club was out...David Byrne came out and it was a mini Talking Heads reunion...

INXS...Kick and X...Michael Hutchens...what a loss...

Re: Concerts - which was the best you've ever been too

For my 16th birthday my dad got me FRONT-ROW CENTER tickets to U2 at Madison Square Garden. I think it was the Joshua Tree tour. My best friend at the time got pulled up on stage to dance with Bono. I was so jealous!

To me it was worth not having a 'sweet 16' party - that was the BEST concert of my life!!!

I also saw the Ramones when I was 17, at Sundance in Bay Shore. I even snatched a guitar pic which I've since lost. That was also fun fun fun!!!

Edited to say I will always regret never having seen the Clash.

JennRenee - was that Paul Simon concert in Montauk an annual thing or just once? DH and I were there too! We drove out for the weekend and saw signs for the concert so we went in I also remember Lyle Lovitt there, although I'm not a fan.

My favorite concerts have been Billy Joel @ MSG a few yrs ago, and Depeche Mode in 1988, before they became mainstream pop artists!

Re: Concerts - which was the best you've ever been too

Ahhhh..this is a great question..

I have a few favorites..

3. Elvis (no I am not kidding..I really did seem him)at Nassau Coliseum in 1973. Even though my best friend and I were in row PP, it is a concert I will never forget.

2. Metallica Nassau Coliseum 1991 or 92 (can't remember). Actually it was my daughter and one of her friends and I took them. The coliseum has an area downstairs where parents can wait for their kids. They give you food and stuff to drink (free, which is nice) and you can watch TV while waiting for the concert to be over. I was bored so I decided to go exploring . I went walking down the hallway outside the room figuring if anyone asked me what I was doing I would say I was looking for the ladies room. Well no one asked me and somehow I ended up finding my way to the backstage area . There was only one security guy there and I just stood there singing along ( I am a very COOL Mom) and he just ignored me. After about 20 minutes he brought me over a chair, still saying nothing to me. I stayed there for almost the whole concert!!!! Finally he told me that I was going to have to leave or he would get in trouble cuz his boss would be coming back soon. I thanked him for letting me stay and then tried to get back to the room I was in. I ended up lost and had to get one of the janitors to show me the way back. My daughter was so jealous because I had a better seat than she did!!!

1. All time favorite!! Gordon Lightfoot at Westbury in 2001. This was 4 months before our wedding and our wedding song was 'Beautiful' which he sings. I wanted so badly to hear that song, so I called ahead of time and asked if they would convey the request. They told me they couldn't, but I begged and pleaded. I don't know if they told him or not, but he sang the song and DH and I sat there holding hands just feeling every bit of that moment. I was in tears and DH was close (he never cries). When they played the song on our wedding day we were both in tears. The memory was just so special.
