Condition of the home when I got in to it last night

Condition of the home when I got in to it last night

It was cluttered with crap. Top to bottom. Every closet had crap, papers, flyers, paint cans still filled with paint, old clothing from the 90's, old old dressers, tv stands, shampoo and condintioner leaky in the upstairs shower stall, a chicken cutlet on the stove, a box of garbage sitting in the middle of the basement, more paint cans and epoxy, a 486 compuer, a broken stairclimber, Christmas wrapping paper in the cubby holes in the loft, a broken stool, nasty shelving still half up....

W T F do I do now? I had people over last night and all I heard from my father was how bad the condition was left in. I wanted to cry. Finally I just freaked and starting yelling at everyone. If were to see pictures you would be upset too. It just bothers me more to have to hear it over and over.

What do I do now???

I also had a neighbor telling me to hurry up and change teh locks beacsue teh former owners friend was living in our basement and she told her she wasn't moving out. Great. Who else will be there when I get there? I am changing the locks next week.

OMG! I am so sorry. Didn't you do a walk through after they moved out? We did when they were gone to check everything. I would call your lawyer and tell him. Hope it works out!

Definitely call your lawyer. I think it says in most contracts the house should be empty.

Man, I am so sorry! People like that piss me off. When my parents sold there home they cleaned it out plus had a professional crew come in, carpet cleaner, landscaper and the whole house was repainted just because my mom didn't want the new owners thinking bad of her and the house was spotless anyway. I can't believe other people aren't like that!

That's awful that some people are so inconsiderate and just plain stupid and it spoiled the joy of your new home!

I'm still stunned by the chicken cutlet on the stove

But chin up!! Before you know it, every thing will fall into place

That's what I was going to suggest also! It should say somthing in your contract that they need to get rid of EVERYTHING in the house. People are so inconsiderate and disgusting!

You should also call the broker and let them know!

That does not sound like broom clean condition!! Call your lawyer but trt not to stress it too much (and don't listen to people who make it sound like its the end of the world, you don't need the stress!) - just get a dumpster and throw it all away, but see if you can get some compensation from the seller.

People stink! I'm sorry that they did that to you....when we left our 1st house I cleaned it from top to bottom and even left the owners a bottle of champagne in the refrigerator.

I would call your lawyer and then have people help you clean it all out.

Also, I would change your locks TODAY not next week based on what the neighbor told you. Go to home depot and buy some locks...it only takes a few minutes to change and directions are included in case it's your 1st time. Good Luck~!

I totally agree and you MUST change the locks today!! Do not wait until you have someone living in the house to then try and change it!!

sorry that is so not what you needed during your celebration period. I am sure your vision of what your house is will come through, some people

I'm with everyone else - get the locks changed TODAY!! If this person gets back into your house, you don't have a legal leg to stand on to physically remove them - you will have to go through an eviction proceeding which can take months and lots of $$$ !! Call the lawyers and tell them not to release escrow so that you can get a dumpster to clean out the place.

I'm so sorry it was not the way you envisioned. It will get better but please don't delay on the lock situation.

Don't feel badly. We had a diaster for our walk through and our attorney got us some money from the previous homeowner to help in the clean up. Our entire front lawn was covered with stuff. There was stuff in the cupboards, in the bathroom and a broken treadmill that weighted a ton in the basement. Not to mention the old crib and books in the attic. A refrigerator filled with food.
It was filthy but we saw past the mess. If my parents has seen it right away they would have died. Well we look at the house a year later and can't believe the change. It's the best house ever.
My advice, if it is dirty, look for a restoration crew and have them come in to clean. If it's just a ton of stuff, look past it and take lots of pictures so you have something to laugh about later. Trust me you will. I remember my DH and I on our hands and knees scrubing the mold off the kitchen floor.
Congrats on your new home!!!!!!!!

P.S. Get the locks changed right away. We had called the lock smith on our cell phone as we left the closing.

Yes call your attorney, like another bride said, it is mentioned in the contract that the house needs to be in 'broom clean' condition. You both signed this contract so therefore, you are entitled to compensation.

and do change those locks.... when we moved in, we had the locks changed the first night, we went out for pizza came back and discovered that some one tried to get in thru the back door - the lock we did not change. It was a glass slider and luckily we braced the door with a piece of wood, so it did not open all the way.
