Re: controversial poll: God
For the sake of simplicity, I believe in a God. Organized religion...whole other story.

Re: controversial poll: God
I was very doubtful while growing up and I always felt a longing to believe in a higher power. In my early 20's I started going to church and reading the Bible and now I do believe. I feel that God has manifested his love for me numerous times.

Re: controversial poll: God
For those of you who don't believe in god, who is marrying you or married you? I need recommendations as both my fiance and I are atheists and want the wedding to be about us, not anything spiritual or religious. Am I allowed to bring up the marriage topic or is that taboo on this board? I have no idea!

We had a friend of ours ordained online and perform our ceremony.

Re: controversial poll: God
I believe in a God...I do not believe in religion.
Religions are man made creations to answer unanswerable questions and too interpretable.
Yet I personally have 100% faith in God and my own personal morals.

Re: controversial poll: God
a ? for the aetheists...This is simply to understand, not directed in any type of condescening or mean way..
How do you feel being a minority..what do you think of the majority of the world who believes in something 'higher'?
And what do you attribute some 'mediums' accurate proof of life after death too? Do you believe they have psychic abilities because MY own belief was encouraged when I met a man who did not even know my name, my age, nothing and was able to describe to me by daughters death in details no one but the Dr's could have known?

Re: controversial poll: God
I think belief in God is a tradition that people follow, like getting married! :) It's scary to go against the norm, and to not have something to 'comfort' you like a heaven and someone 'looking over you', and that's why the majority believe in it. Besides most people believe what their parents believe (and there's nothing wrong with that). I wish I COULD believe in God because it would have made me feel a lot better dealing with my father's death and other hardships, but I simply can't believe in the supernatural. And of course all the awful things organized religion has brought about, teaching us to hate one another, turns me off also. I realize you can believe in God without ascribing to a religion, but neither are for me. It's hard to be in the minority because people automatically associate atheists with anarchists and basically bad people, but the difference between atheists and a lot of religious people is that we don't feel the need to force it on others and therefore don't really talk about it much. Unless someone asks! I think beliefs should be private.
