I fell in love with 2 gowns before I fell in love with mine. One was a Renella DeFina gown that was $3500 and the other was a Yolanda Couture gown that was $5000. Thankfully I ended up finding and falling in love with a Jasmine Couture gown and was very happy to see it was $1500!!

Re: Cpst of wedding dress
My dress, veil, and Tiara came to about $1300 all together. That was actually more than I wanted to spend, but I love my dress.

It depends what you want and what you can afford. You can get an amazingly beautiful silk gown by a designer for thousands of dollars if you can afford it. I certainly saw a lot of dresses that I would have loved to have, by Alvina Valenta, Reem Acra, Kenneth Pool, Carolina Herrera, and others. I read fashion magazines and I love real fashion. Unlike most people, I know what haute couture really means (it's not another term for 'designer.') But there was no way I could justify paying that amount of money. We're middle-class people and we want to buy a house later this year. So my budget was $1200 and less. I bought a gorgeous Casablanca gown--it's not silk, but the beading and embroidery is very good quality, and I look amazing in it. And no one's going to know it's not silk. I'm going to have an amazing wedding day, and I'm keeping within my budget.
If you can afford a high-end gown, more power to you! But don't let anyone pressure you into paying more than you can afford, or into buying something you don't really want. It's your day, remember. And if you're the right size, look into sample sales, or you can always look into buying a secon-hand gown. After all, most have only been worn once! Just remember that they usually need to be cleaned and repaired and that can cost a bundle. Just cleaning a high-end gown properly can cost $500.

Re: Cpst of wedding dress
My dress was waaaaaay more than I wanted to spend, but I fell in love with it and no other dress compared after I tried it on. The dress was $3500!!! My grandmother bought it for me which was the main reason why I didn't want to spend that much, but she loved it too.
