Re: cruise help please

Dubliner we went to Bermuda for our Honeymoon. You are going to love it! we had so much!!! It is so beautiful there! If you have any questions send me an FM I can suggest things to see. Do not take taxis to get around. Get the bus passes they are good for the buses and ferries. They have passes for 3 days and those for 4, depends on how long you are there for. The ship we went on was Celebrity-Horizon. Having a room with a balcony makes no difference when you wont be in the room as much...Have fun girl!

Bedda: We are taking the Celebrity Zenith for a friends wedding. Can you give me some info on what activities Celebrity had and what sort of excursions were available, etc??

Yeah but i'll have to check the little daily newsletters they gave you. I saved them. But dont go crazy with them because they can be expensive. I'll take a look at the pamphlet tonight and keep you posted.

Re: cruise help please

I went on this ship for my HM last yr. We had a top of the line cabin on the highest deck with a balcony/ocean view and the room was still a bit small. I peaked in the other cabins and they were really tiny...Nordic Empress's state rooms are supposedly much smaller than other cruise ships so it may be a little tight. However, IMO this isnt your HM, and you dont really spend that much time in your room anyway esp. since you are with friends so I say go for it.

I agree that having the balcony was awesome at night when we were alone though....beautiful views and private. We also had a sitting area -not sure if the other staterooms have that.

Bermuda is absolutely gorgeous with great food and beaches and shopping, but I thought the ship was a bit lacking in decor (kind of outdated) and there is only one pool. The activities onboard were great and the food was decent in the main dining room..... and lots of it (food!) have fun! FM if you have any questions about bermuda.

Re: cruise help please

Ive already been to Bermuda so I dont feel the need to do too much of exploring on my own. We are only going to have 3 days there (b/c one day will be the wedding) so if we can get some fun excursions, its worth the money to keep me occupied.

Im worried about being bored on the ship. This is the first time Im going to be on a ship that is not brand new and huge and full of activities. Ive heard the pool is really small so I dont know what Im going to do all day.

Thanks for checking for me :D

Cute photos :D Thanks.

What kind of room did you get? On the Zenith there is only a regular room and a suite and teh prices are insane for both.

Stacey - you went on the Zenith? or is this the Horizon?

What was your take on the trip?

Re: cruise help please

I've heard Celebrity is better than Royal Caribbean in terms of service and food but I have also heard that Royal Carib is the only one to offer balconies on the trips to Bermuda.....which was so cool.

I thought the food on RC was good but I liked the food better on the island of Bermuda actually! We paid 3500 total not including alcohol/tips/excursions, spending money etc for a balcony room - how much are they for regular rooms? If you cant get the balcony room, like I said, and you've never been to Bermuda, I say do it. Of course, the balcony exp. is so nice.

Re: cruise help please

We went on the Horizon but from what I understand they are pretty much the same ship

The food was pretty good with a few exceptions.

They have all those 'scheduled activities' which we didn't do but we did see a few people doing them.

It was a lot of older people and families.

It was the first time I ever cruised on a non-Carnival ship.

Bermuda was worth it but I think you said you have already been. The ship seems like it is an older ship. Also we all got kind of seasick, and I was preggo at the time.

The highlight was that Regis Philbin and his wife were cruising on the same cruise.

Honestly I probably wouldn't use them again I would go for a more updated ship

no stacey i have to disagree with you because we had a great time on the ship. the shows at night were great. The island celebration was really. we did line dancing and danced a conga line by the pool area.

everyone has their own experience.

Exactly what I feared! Im already dreading this trip!

Re: cruise help please

I think the RC ships have a bit younger crowd - I like to think they are a cross b/w Carnival (for fun) and Celebrity (for class).... but there were definitely older retired people onboard. Most of the Bermuda sailings seem to be that way....

Sonic: I would book a spa treatment and stay away from the scheduled activities...haha. I know you said you've been before but have you eaten at the Tom Moore Tavern in Bermuda? It is beautiful and romantic.. I would try to get a reservation there too if you havent. Also check out Barracuda Grill in Hamilton - it was pretty new in Sept 2002.

Re: cruise help please

I was on two cruises. I never had a balcony on either one. On one cruise we had an ocean view window and the other there was no window at all. I would say as long as you have the window it is fine. I would never go on a cruise where there was no window again, but we were going with friends that time and it was all that was left. As for the balcony, I dont think I would of used it much at all anyway.

Re: cruise help please

I sailed the Horizon to Bermuda a couple years ago, and I had a great time. When the weather was good (it rained most of the time we were sailing), there were games and contests up on the pool deck. There were also other activities like bingo, and a newlywed game, things like that, things you see on every cruise, no matter how big/small the ship is. I think it's all what you make it. If you want to lounge around, you'll have a great vacation, but if you want to be involved in activities, you'll always find something to do. At night while in Bermuda, they also had really fun (albeit cheesy) deck parties. I will say though, that their stage shows were pure cheese (but we didn't miss one, so I guess they weren't too bad), but I've seen worse on Carnival. All in all, it was a great vacation, and probably the best cruise I've been on.

Re: cruise help please

I forgot to look at the activities schedule ( I saved them). I was gonna take a look at them and then tell you what activities are available on the ship but I got tired and went to bed early. Basically if you dont join in anything then yes you will be bored. They have contests, shows etc. etc. If you are a beach person Bermuda has beautiful beaches to hang out on. It's true that Celebrity ships are older and not as fancy and big as the others out there but the service on the celebrity cruise ships are better. Their shows at night are great. I had a good time.
