This is a WARNING... (of course this can happen anywhere but cruise ships are the biggest culprit)...
One of my beautiful BMs went on a cruise last october, great trip to the Caribbean, she loved it. Well, guess what, turns out she brought a few stowaways home - BEDBUGS. She's been professionally exterminated every month since then, had to literally bag up her entire home, and hasnt seen any in a while but ewwww. The exterminator mentioned that he's seeing SO MUCH of this from cruisers, its insane.
Then last month another friend goes on a different cruise line, checks the mattress, and you guessed it, bugified. She high-tailed it out of there to another room...
SOOOOOOOO when you get to your cabin, PLEASE DO NOT UNPACK until you check the mattress (seriously, lift the fitted sheet, check the seams, and ESPECIALLY the bedskirts). if you see ANYTHING demand to be moved to another room.
Most cruise ships and hotels for that matter have or have had problems - so PLEASE check it out, you do NOT want to spend your first year of marriage dealing with this, its a NIGHTMARE to get rid of them!!!!
And in most cases you CANNOT sue the hotel/cruise line after the fact - cause you can't prove you got 'em there!!!

they are too small to see.. it's really a crap shoot an yeah it's happening in hotels too.. it ***** cause something like that can ruin u'r vacation.. most ships i thought were super careful not so uch cause of the bed bugs but becasue of the noro virus scares of late.. i know on the cruise i just came back from on that last day they were scrubbing that boat down real hard..
personally i think cruises need more time between when one cruise ends and another one begins... our cruise came in at 8 and was going back out with a new boatload of people that afternoon at 4.. people were still on the boat at 12! they need more time than that to clean it good..

It happens in hotels a lot too. They say not to put your luggage on the bed because that's how they come home with you. Disgusting.

Oooh ok this might be the GROSSEST thread of all time but here we go...
You can TOTALLY see the adult bugs!!!! I can't post pics (unsolved mystery on this pc) but here's a disgusting link with pics. My friend showed me a few dead ones she killed, so i'd know what we were looking for.
And here's a quick link to what to look for, pics of bites, life cycle etc. Yuck 2
And they are very FLAT so they can hide everywhere, though mattress are preferred (you're free food when you're asleep).
More good news: they can live dormant for MONTHS WITHOUT EATING.
OK Girls, if you need me I'll be throwing up for the rest of the night...

THATS REALLY GROSS MY MOM BROUGHT THEM HOME WHEN SHE WENT SKIING LAST WINTER FROM A HOTEL WE HAD TO THROW OUT EVRYTHING ALL THE BEDS THE COUCHES EVERYTHING. THE SAD PART WAS THAT EVERYTHING WAS BRAND NEW.

Bed bugs are really small and have no wings. Theyre hard to detect but i read that a sign that there are bed bugs in your mattress is if you see black fecal spots! GROSS! The article said to also look inside cabin draws before unpacking.

Blech. I know my BM was on Celebrity, and i think the other one was Norwegian, but seriously, this GROSSNESS is not limited to a particular 'socioeconomic' demographic. Even 5 star hotels have had problems, it really depends on the room/bed you get, so check EVERYTHING. Having seen the little critters, they are NOT microscopic, you just have to really check the mattress seams, cause if the mattress is a dark color they won't stand out. Blech.

Don't think that you're safe just because they're only on cruise ships. I had MANY clients when I asked them what the heezie happened to all their furniture/beds/carpet etc. they told me that they had to throw it all away due to bed bugs.
NYC had a HUGE infestation of bedbugs last fall and winter. Millions of NYers going here there and everywhere imagine how far spread it is now!

For years now the first thing my mom and me and my sister do when we get to any sort of hotel is go through the beds to check if there are any. it can happen anywhere from a Ritz to a Motel 6. No matter where we are we always check! Its def more common in beach hotels and I guess cruises cus of the moisture from the ocean.
