CRUISE HMs, this is really gross but...

Original post by Colette

This is a WARNING... (of course this can happen anywhere but cruise ships are the biggest culprit)...

One of my beautiful BMs went on a cruise last october, great trip to the Caribbean, she loved it. Well, guess what, turns out she brought a few stowaways home - BEDBUGS. She's been professionally exterminated every month since then, had to literally bag up her entire home, and hasnt seen any in a while but ewwww.
The exterminator mentioned that he's seeing SO MUCH of this from cruisers, its insane.

Then last month another friend goes on a different cruise line, checks the mattress, and you guessed it, bugified. She high-tailed it out of there to another room...

SOOOOOOOO
when you get to your cabin, PLEASE DO NOT UNPACK until you check the mattress (seriously, lift the fitted sheet, check the seams, and ESPECIALLY the bedskirts). if you see ANYTHING demand to be moved to another room.

Most cruise ships and hotels for that matter have or have had problems - so PLEASE check it out, you do NOT want to spend your first year of marriage dealing with this, its a NIGHTMARE to get rid of them!!!!

And in most cases you CANNOT sue the hotel/cruise line after the fact - cause you can't prove you got 'em there!!!

This may sound moronic - but what do you look for? Aren't they too small to see??

You can see them in the seams. But run your fingers over the sheets too- you may not see them in there- but when you run your fingers, you may see blood. (Ya its gross).

FYI
The reason for such bad infestations recently is because the chemical that hotels and such have been using to keep them away and kill them has been banded by FDA.

OK So I know first hand how these things are!

THEY ARE DISGUSTING!!!

Last year I moved into an apartment in Boston, MA first year out of college. Well I was there for about a month and started to get little bites like Mosquito Bites so I thought that is what it was. Then I woke up one morning have to about 50 bites all over me! I went to the pharmacy to get itch reliever because it was the itchiest thing ever! The pharmacist took one look and said You have bed bugs!

I was mortified and so grossed out! I had all new things so I know they had to be there when I moved in!

I found out that you only see the bites when you are allergic. My FH had no BITES and we slept in the same bed! So I was getting so mad at him. Luckily they did not leave the bedroom we had everything checked and only the bed had them!

We had an exterminator come in 2 times and they still did not leave. We had to end up moving! GOod thing though because out landlord was so horrible about it blaming us even though we had all new things!

HOTELS ARE BIG CARRIERS! Last summer it was all over the news. EWW I get itchy thinking about it.

Ugghhh.... This is just gross!

I am taking my first cruise for my honeymoon with Royal and will definitely be checking the bed and all the drawers. Icckkkk... They sound as bad as fleas. We were infested with fleas a few years ago and i kept getting bit and we just couldn't get rid of them. My cats are not even outdoor cats. We were bringing them in the house. Ickkkk...

I will also be checking the beds when I go to hotels for now on too.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention. I appreciate it.

What do they look like? Are they visible to the naked eye or is it like a microscopic type thing?
