Dais or sweetheart table

FH says he told me he wanted a dais with all the wedding party sitting at it at the reception.

I said that since we are not doing an 'irish wedding' (where you eat first and then dance afterwards, it's what alot european countries/customs do) that maybe it would be better to have a sweetheart table (just the 2 of us) and we can break up the wedding party and have BM's and GM's sit with their significant others. He says that his friends won't care that they are not sitting with their significant others but because it's not just 'eat first' thing they are going to be separated from them longer for the evening.

I would like to get a sense of who did what. Maybe I'm jumping to conclusions but if he was in an American wedding and I was just the guest and there was a whole dais, I would be pissed off I had to sit on my own the whole night (unless I knew my table mates).

Thank you
Mary

Re: Dais or sweetheart table

We are doing a sweethart tablejust the two of us. At my sisters wedding I sat at the dais and although I still moved around and went to talk to my family I would of much preffered to just have sat with them in the first place.

Re: Dais or sweetheart table

Yes I think that some of my friends' husbands will feel weird sitting alone. Neither of them know anyone there really. One guy sorta knows one other couple. The other won't know anyone but his mother and father in law who are also invited.

My sister/moh and another BM arent dating anyone so they won't care and the groomsmens are used to that anyway.

We'll see...I think I might have convinced him about the sweetheart table.

Re: Dais or sweetheart table

We are having just the two of us. I wanted the bridal party to be able to sit with their significant others and enjoy themselves. My mother suggested having their significant others sit at the dais with them, but I just didn't like the fact of them sitting up there when they are not in the bridal party, and they would be in regualar clothes while the others would be all dressed up and I just didn't like how it looked when I pictured it in my head. So FH and I decided, we wanted it to be just the two of us. Because when and if we get to sit at our dais together, that will probably be the only moments we really get to talk and share with each other all night!!

Re: Dais or sweetheart table

It's funny because when I went to see Reception House in Queens, they just do sweetheart tables. That threw me off completely. I want my bridal party to be with us. I feel that's the purpose of them being there. Thats' why I don't want to do the Rolls Royce things either. It's a matter of personally choice.

Re: Dais or sweetheart table

we did the sweetheart table. i am not a fan of the dais for the reason that the BP would be separated from their dates. i wouldn't want to be a date of someone sitting on a dais.

Re: Dais or sweetheart table

I'm not a fan of the dais. I haven't been to too many weddings where people do that anymore. I think it is nice for the BP to be able to sit with their dates. If I was in the BP I would prefer to sit with my FH than at a dais.

Re: Dais or sweetheart table

I have been in weddings where I had to sit at the dais...and I much prefer it when I got to sit at a regular table.

We are doing a sweetheart table.

Re: Dais or sweetheart table

I have to see what FH wants to do. I'm slowing trying to convince him that a sweetheart table is easiest.

The only thing is taht a dais actually gives more room overall (one less table) so we have to see the layout of the room first.

Thanks everyone!

Re: Dais or sweetheart table

I am not a fan of the dias either.
FH has been in 2 weddings with one (that were out of state) and there I am sitting ALL ALONE b.c I hardly knew anyone (we had just started dating) and those that I did know-- were sitting at another table! He felt so bad. I don't want anyone to go through what I did.
SO we are definitley doing the sweetheart table.

Re: Dais or sweetheart table

Sweetheart. My grandmother wants a dais, I'm gonna have to beat her with a stick, my FI kinda wants a dais, him too.

I think they're just kinda silly. No one can even talk to each other.

Re: Dais or sweetheart table

i was in a bridal party and we were at a dais. most of the bridal party ended up not being there most of the time because they were with significant others. my fiance was at a different table and i just ate my food quickly so that he didn't have to sit alone with people he didn't really know. it's a nice idea,m but it can be uncomfortable for the bridal party and their guests.

i was in another bridal party and they had a sweetheart table, but the bridal party and guests were seated at the tables right next to them so we weren't too far.
