The mansion is beautiful. The only problem is that they can only accomodate up to 120 people.

That's great for me since I should have only 85 to 100 ppl. What did you think about the price and what you get for it? I was very surprised when they 'knocked me over' with the price per person. I had thought they would be pricey but not quite so!

Although you do not need it Michele, they can accomodate up to 200 with a tent. I would love to have the wedding there but cannot justify spending $250 per person. Best of luck

Thanks for the opinion Anne. AND if you have your ceremony there its another $20 per person! I was given the price of $270 per person with reception and NOT including tax and gratuity bringing you up to $350 per person. Outrageous! Our only saving grace is that we are having so few people. Are you aware of other locations on LI (Nassau County preferably) which are similar to this one (mansion) but not quite so expensive?

I went to a wedding there a few months ago. They had the ceremony there as well. I have been to a number of weddings and nothing compares to the wedding that I saw there. It was absolutly beautiful. I wish I could've afforded a place like that. If you can afford it I would say go for it. You will not regret it. Elisa

Harrison House - another MORE AFFORDABLE mansion

another mansion not so expensive: Harrison House in Glen Cove (that`s where i`m getting married)... we`re paying $160 per person, we`re having 175-200, so space should be fine, and it`s a conference center so there are accomodations on the grounds (not to mention amenities up the butt!)... if you want to ask me anything about harrison house, please do :) i have, however, heard NOTHING but raves about de seversky. we didn`t look into it due to the number of guests (and apparently, it wouldn`t have even been an option at that price!), but it`s highly recommended. my sister got married at the hamlet in commack (? i think). we loved her caterer, but he retired, so we called him for recommendations. he recommended de seversky.

Other Mansions & Philip Stone Catering

I'm getting married at Coindre Hall in Huntington, which is gorgeous, and I think the price for a Saturday night is only $85/person. $350 for wedding on premises. But there are four different caterers for Coindre Hall. Lessing.com has pics of the site, but I'm using Philip Stone Catering, which to me seems like a much better caterer (has catered events in the Metropolitan Museum of Art and other fancy gigs...I just really liked the way I was treated by the caterer, who even brought me a box of chocolate when we signed the contract.) Philip Stone does a lot of other mansions, too, and might have something else. $350/person sounds crazy. Here's the link to their site: http://www.stonecaterers.com/homepage.htm I did all my negotiating with Peter Scheier.

Some more thoughts: (mansions)

There's also the Vanderbilt Mansion at Dowling College in Oakdale...it's catered by Lovin'Ovens and runs about $125/person, I think. That might be too far for you. If you're close enough, you also might consider some of the mansions in Westchester. The Estherwood is gorgeous, and I'm pretty sure they're running around $125/person, with a 100 minimum. Good luck!

I went to a couple of parties there and I always felt that the room was too far appart from others and it's long walk to get to certain spots. and the kitchen is downstairs also. I would think twice

If anyone would like any info on mansions, I looked into almost all of the mansions in Westchester, NYC, and LI.

De Seversky Mansion--LONG

I'm having my wedding at De Seversky this coming October! The funny thing is that when we signed a contract with them back in October 2000, it was their old price list, which is about $100 LESS than what it is now!!! They told us that they were going to change their price list, but I never thought that it would be so much higher! WOW! We are actually having about 200 guests. They call is a 'continuous cocktail reception' which means that there are no assigned seating and there will be food stations in different rooms! I think that it will be a great opportunity for people to mingle and move around the mansion, rather than sit with people whom they may not know, at their table. Everyone who I've told about this style of wedding has loved the idea of a 'formal party'!! The suggestions that others made, regarding other mansions, are great! We also looked at Coindre Hall and the Vanderbilt. If you wouldn't mind something outside of NYC or Long Island, there are a few mansions in Westchester. Also, there is a place called Park Savoy in New Jersey (about 40 minutes outside of NYC), which is also a beautiful mansion. GOOD LUCK!! I'm sure wherever you choose will be amazing and very special.

The funny thing is that when we signed a contract with them back in October 2000, it was their old price list, which is about $100 LESS than what it is now!!!' I had the same situation with my reception at Flowerfield. We booked our July of 2001 rescption of November of 1999. We were told to book quickly because their prices were going up. Well, if I hadn't been completely sold on the place from day 1, I wouldn't have booked so quickly, but I'm so glad I did! I recently saw their new price list, and I'm paying $55 per person LESS than it would cost if I waited till after Jan. 1st 2000. We are having just under 300 people, so we never could have afforded Flowerfield if we had waited. I'm glad we didn't!! : )

Are you getting married at De Seversky? From your first e-mail, I got the impression that you didn't know the prices or anything, but your last e-mail states that you may have booked there? Let me know if you are...we can exchange ideas....:-)
