That's what my mom said when I just spoke to her. As an International Relations major in college, I can't discuss this stuff with her.

and people wonder why i question the existence of a God.
how much longer are our troops (and other Americans) going to be there? this is getting way out of hand! no, wait... this has been out of hand for AWHILE now!

I truly believe that this will be our world for the rest of our lives ... now that we are in sooo deep with Afganistan, Iraq, Isreal, Palistine, etc .. I really think we will be facing this for a very very LONG time ... I do not see an end in sight for this barbaric treatment of Americans. I think in the future it'll be even worse. There was always an anti-American culture over there but now it has gotten 1,000,000,000 times worse.

I just heard this news now too. His family will be in my prayers.

Personally I don't think this started with Iraq, it started with September 11th. The sentiment hasn't changed, it's the idea that it's possible to hurt America that has. America has been involved with Israel since its creation. During the 70s things were much worse than they are currently. It was that 9/11 worked, and even better than they hoped, that made these people think/see that America (and by definition Americans) is NOT an untouchable fortress.

And now everything is in our faces 24/7...We are made much more aware of things going on...Up to the second...I don't want to know.

And I agree, September 11th proved that we are not untouchable...(May not be exactly what you were saying---but...)

I agree with you September 11th set off a huge change in the way these countries/groups see America. They don't want peace, they never have ... I think now that they know we are NOT untouchable, there is going to be more incidents with Americans.

i would rather know NOTHING!!! i don't watch the news anymore because its just too scary! theres nothing i can do about it, so i'm going to ignore it and try and live my life NOT IN FEAR! I'm tired of hearing of every time they elevate the terror thing (how come i can't think of the word?)

I understand that everyone's gut instinct is to get emotional and demand that everything be fixed but unfortunately that's not possible right now. I guess I was trained not to respond like that in college. It sucks but it's a reality we have to face. We might not like the rules, but in order to change them we're going to have to play by them.

I am just soo sad .. this has just been killing me everytime I saw the family's plea's on TV I was out on a long lunch and didn't even put CNN back up on my computer

I cannot even get into any sort of political debate about this .. its just too heartbreaking.

Sometimes I just wish I didn't read a newspaper or watch the news.. ignorance truly IS BLISS in this day and age.

It's the Saudi Arabian government that is holding the prisoners in question. Either way though, as awful as it is, there's nothing to do. If you give into their demands, they're going to continue with this method since it works. Sort of like giving into a child throwing a temper tantrum. If it works, they're going to do it every time they want something.

Also, the State Department has been issuing warnings for almost a month to all Americans in Saudi Arabia to get out because it was unsafe. This guy decided to stay. Doesn't mean, obviously, he deserved to die but there wasn't much else our government could have done.

But that's exactly what they were hoping would happen. Folks would blame the US. The demand was for those prisoners whe the Saudis were holding NOT us were released and all westerns to be out of the country. That's just simply asking for too much.

They wanted to just lay the blame at the US. It really had very little to do with us leaving because we could have just left, got the guy home safely (if they really meant it) and gone back, who's to stop us.

The Saudis had a tough choice. They couldn't let those prisoners free. If an American dies during their watch then I'm sure they felt we'd blame them.

Lucky for them it's so cool to hate our president that honestly MOST people still blame Bush for this. I had to sit in my cubby and hear everyone rant and rave on how Bush should have/could have stopped this.

Even though it was in Saudia Arabia.. I had to hear how we should leave and so forth.

I had to remind them 'We're talking Saudi, not Iraq' I got deep mean stares that said 'So what, aren't they all the same?' Such a shame.

I feel bad for the family who had to be publically drawn through this.

I am REALLY happy to hear I'm not the only one who's absolutely annoyed by this.

Plus, it's really funny how people pick and choose their beliefs as they see fit at the time. People hate Bush and call him an idiot, moron and every other synonym for a stupid person. Then something happens in the world they don't like. 'Bush could have/should have stopped it.' Ok, so which is it - is he an absolute simpleton? If so, he definitely couldn't have done anything to stop it. Or is he this all-knowing all-powerful god-like figure that can start and stop things on a dime? Well, then he couldn't be a simpleton could he?
