We have been to the showcase and it is only cocktail hour food. We already know what we want for the cocktail hour.

Sorry that you are having this issue. I dont think it is a 'lesson learned' as stated above. I think it stinks. But I dont know if having your dad call would help. I think pick dishes that you think are your favorite 'sounding' and try them.

But I wouldn't worry - seriously I am sure the food is good - and I don't think the food makes the wedding....the bride and groom make it - oh and the booze!

Please forgive my ignorance but I dont see the point in a tasting. Do you have THAT many choices?

For my hall I was able to pick ten chafing dishes for the cocktail hour. Would I ask to try all 30 choices before making my decision? What am I? A food critic? I mean I had tripe and eggplant - two things I H A T E - so would I bring someone else to try those?

For the entrees I only got to pick what kind of steak I wanted - does it matter how its cooked the day of my tasting? It is steak it wil taste differently every time someone cooks it.

So what if you don't like something? Now what? cancel the hall and pick another?

I am not trying to be mean, I just never understood it. And if you have confidence in your hall I wouldn't worry about it!!

My RH gave us a tasting. Even with a tasting though, they didn't let us try every single dish. We tried some CH food, salads, and 1 chicken, 1 beef and 1 fish. The tasting is basically to give you an idea of the quality of the food and then you just choose based on the menu that they give you. It shouldn't make or break your choice of venue.

I don't know which RH you are using, but I'm sure it will be fine!

Why would you book on the notion you could taste the food?

I guess your lesson is learned.

I wouldn't push too hard. You are paying and will have to pay, their service to you will be based on your behavior to them.

i do agree with you that he should have treated you better though and you should definitely address that!!

I guess the difference was that I didnt have to choose my entree choices - they had a lot, like 12 but they were already set. . . . maybe i would have felt differently then!

I dont think I am as upset about the food tasting as I am about my banquet managers attitude towards me. Like i was putting HIM out by asking such a question. Just didnt seem right to me. He told me to call back 8 weeks before the wedding (which is in 6 months) and we can schedule the tasting of the 2 appetizers and choose 4 entrees to sample.

I'm not sure why this has become such a touchy subject to some people... but the issue here is that you're banquet manager totally brushed you off! I would totally be upset if I were you! Good Luck with this and don't let it upset you!

Oh My!!! I am so sorry to hear that, how unfair. My hall let us go to 3 food tastings!!!!! They should definitely do smoething for you, how rude of them! As someone said, i'd try to be slick and have a friend pretend to book but demand a tasting first and go along. Good Luck!!!!

Hm, I dont know why he cares WHEN you try the food - maybe see if you can push it up to an earlier time if its important to you.

Where is your wedding being held at? As that is such an odd thing for a catering hall to do. I mean if you and your FH are paying for a wedding, they have to at least make you comfortable and let you do a tasting of some sort. If you go and request to speak to a manager or the owner and fill him in your situation and of course dont forget to tell him how the banquet manager treated you, I'm sure they will do whatever it takes to make you 100% happy. Don't let them get away with that, demand a tasting. So Sorry you are dealing with all of this nonsense. Just smile, it will all turn out perfect

Thanks everyone for your HONEST opinions, I certainly appreciate it. I have the type of personality that over-reacts immediately then calms down and understands the reasonable side. FH and I were supposed to go drop off more money APril 1st. When we go I will talk to them in person adn tell them that we would like to forego the appetizer tasting and then taste 2 chicken entrees, 2 veal and 2 seafood.

I will also do some searching around on this website and the 2007 boards to get some opinions on food choices.
