democratic party vent

Is it just me or do some of you feel this way as well.... That the democratic party is just way too celebrity driven.
I like Dave Matthews too but when you see/hear about the democratic national convention, its all celebs yacking their mouths off - Chevy chase, Sarah Jessica parker, Glenn close, etc. its turned into a hollywood who's who party and not politics as usual.

Meanwhile, they know CRAP about politics.
I put it under the category of kabbalah.

and enough bush bashing - bottom line, he's our PRESIDENT, let's show SOME RESPECT.

Just had to vent :)

that's fine for you, but what happened last night is going to hurt kerry -- having whoopi goldberg do what she did is making kerry look very childish in his attacks and he's going to lose if he doesn't stop hob knobbing for celebs and getting down to business

kerry still has to show respect and what happened last night is a reflection on him

I was just thinking about this issue today. While I am glad that the Democratic party has the significant monetary support of various celebrities, some of them just wind up making buffoons of themselves at various events. Barbra Streisand comes to mind as the most obvious example. Often, celebrities just aren't well-informed on the issues. (Not always the case, but often.)

I certainly don't mind -- in fact, I'm really pleased -- when people air thoughtful and intelligent critiques of Bush, but 'bashing' is counterproductive, no matter who does it (Democrat, Republican, Green, Independent, Whatever).

There are PLENTY of intelligent and easily supportable critiques one could make of Bush. I'd rather hear those than childish insults any day.

exactly, if you're going to beat him, beat him with the issues and kerry has not proven to me that he's the man to do it

UGH! Barbra Streisand gives Democrats a bad name!
I guess its 'hip' to be a liberal in Hollywood.

I truly think that a lot of this is to reach out to the younger demographic. They don't vote and it seems like the celebrities say and do things just to get the 18 to 24's to vote...and the stars seem to have decided that they will get the attention (and the vote) anyway possible. It's sort of barbaric and the sad thing is, it doesn't seem to work cuz the younger people aren't interested in voting, period.

I think that they should be allowed the same rights that the rest of us have in supporting a candidate. Yes, they are famous but does that mean that they should not be able to voice their opinions about who they want in office and support him in his journey? As far as not knowing anything about politics I have to say that I don't look to the stars for my political insight.

I also believe that the first amendment gives people the right to question or bash our President. As long as they are not threatening his life I believe it is legal.

I personally cannot respect a man that I feel has so little respect for the American public. I feel he flatout lied to us to get the backing he needed to go to war. He may be my President for now, but I don't have to respect or like it!!!

I am a damn proud democrat and say what you want about whoopi but don't touch sarah jessica!!! She is my idol ! I could care less if she voted for Bush or Nader, I love her!!!

I also agree with not having to show Bush respect. Respect is earned, not a privilege. So far he has yet to earn it. JMO as you are entitled to yours.

Excuse me, I practice Kabbalah. Are you anti-jew now too??? The anti-democrat I can tolorate but the anti-sememtic I will not stand for. I don't practice it because Madonna and Britney practice it. I practice it for a higher level of spirituality. If you have further issues with my choice of religon feel free to FM me.

Re: democratic party vent

i know i can't speak for her... but i'm pretty sure that she's referring to the celebrity 'Fad' of kabbalah, and not Kabbalah itself.
I personally don't buy her and Britney's 'faith' in it.
