democratic party vent

Original post by shoppie

Is it just me or do some of you feel this way as well.... That the democratic party is just way too celebrity driven.
I like Dave Matthews too but when you see/hear about the democratic national convention, its all celebs yacking their mouths off - Chevy chase, Sarah Jessica parker, Glenn close, etc. its turned into a hollywood who's who party and not politics as usual.

Meanwhile, they know CRAP about politics.
I put it under the category of kabbalah.

and enough bush bashing - bottom line, he's our PRESIDENT, let's show SOME RESPECT.

Just had to vent :)

Agreed - but unfortunately too many people have lost that skill. You may not respect the President's actions, but you should respect him as a fellow American and fellow human being, and you should show some respect for the office.

i don't respect a president who has no respect for americans, those who have put their lives on the line to serve their country, and the innocent iraqi families that have been destroyed.

i will bush bash til the cows come home

why? because i am angry with what is going on around me. angry that i am being lied to, angry because there is not a damn thing i can do about it...well, except for VOTE!!!

i am an equal opportunity basher, if republicans can go after clinton, democrats should be able to go after bush. i wish they wouldn't stoop to a certain level, but i don't think speaking ill about a person means one has no respect for the office. i have a ton of respect for the office, i wish we had a president who did as well!

Speaking of Bush bashing, you're right, the ugliness of many Republicans' attacks on Clinton (among others) has led directly to 'bashing' on the other side of the spectrum. That's why I think it's completely hilarious (and ironic) when hate-spewing, fact-ignoring right wingers like Limbaugh and Coulter complain about Michael Moore's bias and his alleged 'lies.' I want to say to the Limbaugh camp -- just as I might have done when I was a kid in a playground fight -- 'YOU STARTED IT!' I find Moore's success very satisfying for this reason.

that combined with 'I know you are but what am I...'

I don't know...it's all a big circus. But I really resent being told to show respect for someone I don't respect. Sorry I won't. I think Bush is an ignoramus who is destroying the world.

Also, did you hear that a bill limiting the patriot act so that they can't monitor your reading habits didn't pass because the repubs extended the time to get their extra votes...it failed on 210 to 210. So now they can see what you're reading. I guess I'm already on the list for having gone to see fahrenheit 9/11

Well, first off most celebs tend to be democrats, I think. I may be wrong. But I've always noticed that alot of celebrities tended to gravitate to the democratic side in the last 10 years. Secondly, you cannot judge who knows about politics and who doesn't. For all we know Sarah Jessica Parker could know alot about it. Just because she played an aloof, sometimes clueless cutesy NY'er in Sex and the City doesn't mean she's really like that.

Furthermore, we're seeing what the media chose to show us. Maybe there were 20 celebrities there, but there were thousands of 'normal' people there. The celebs may have been asked to attend to pull in other people that wanted to see the celebs.

And don't forget the Bush team won't even allow reporters or photographers to attend their fundraisers so we have no idea who goes to them and what goes on inside.

I can't believe that that is going to happen.
Now what the hell are libraries going to do because their FUNDING depends on their readership - and if people stop checking out books because their habits are being monitored, then there goes the funding. Well I hope the Republicans pass another bill to give libraries money when that happens! Bad enough NY Public Library has to close one extra day a week because they don't have the money to keep libraries open 6 days a week.

That sh*t just pisses me off. And there's a good way around all this anyway...buy the books in cash. Duh. So the bill isn't going to make that much of a difference.

Yes, you can have respect for the office of the President, but not for the President. How am I suppose to respect someone whose actions I don't respect?

I agree completely, heidla.

Also, it comes into question when you can respect the office at all when it can allegedly be stolen or cheated.
