Diamond wedding bands--question

Diamond wedding bands--question

hi girls,

just wondering:
for those of you that have or will have diamond wedding bands---will you be picking the diamonds out yourself & should they be gia certified???

i want my wedding band to total 1.50 carats & either want it to be an eternity band or diamonds half way around the band (if that helps)...

thanks!!!

Re: Diamond wedding bands--question

I think any diamonds you get should be GIA certified or the other certification (I can't remember the name)... I don't believe you have to pick out the stones yourself unless you're custom-making it, ya know? I mean I could be totally wrong. But, if I were you I'd go to a few jewelers and ask. Good luck and let me know what you end up doing.

I did not pick out each stone by myself. I trusted my jeweler to match as close as possible to my e-ring.

Re: Diamond wedding bands--question

My jeweler said she'd gets stones that matched the sidestones in my engagement ring for the wedding band.

The one thing she said that sticks out is that they need to be the same color or better than those in your engagement ring. For example, if your engagement ring is 'F' color, a wedding band with 'H' color stones would look dirty all the time next to it.

Be careful about this: most jewelers use 'lesser' stones for eternity bands because the stones are a lot smaller so harder to tell AND couples tend to be on a budget.

I really wanted a matching eternity but to get the cut and quality stones that matched my ering - the price was much too high.

Thanks Sonicstef - I'll definitely look out for this!

What style of eternity band are you looking for meaning, is it with baguettes or with round stones etc. I am sure you can pick your own stones. I just recently changed a couple of stones on my ering setting and it definitely can get costly. I did not pick the stones for my band, I just told the jeweler the quality that I was looking for.

Happy planning

I got an eternity band w/ diamonds all the way around. I didn't pick the stones myself, but went to a jewler and had them loose, then set. I've heard bad rumors that if you buy the ring already set, you sometimes don't get what you're paying for The color of my stones is better than the color of my engagement ring- but they said it didn't matter- as long as they were white stones.

Hope that helps

I will have the diamonds set. I am very good friends with a jeweler, I used to work there, he is doing everything for us.

The jeweler who custom made my e-ring will also custom make my wedding bands w/the same quality baguettes

Re: Diamond wedding bands--question

The diamond setter who made my e-ring is making our bands and he told me that all the stones should match (we are getting matching bands w/ princess stones half way around the band). My stones need to match or close to my engagement ring stone.
I have gone to the diamond district just to compare prices and the stones seem to always be F color with VS1 clarity. They all kept saying this is the norm. Is it really the norm?

I'm doing the same thing as Liz!! I'm having my jeweler make my eternity band to match my e-ring...

Re: Diamond wedding bands--question

What do they mean the Norm?
Is that what they are saying should be the norm, or is that what tends to be popular?

Re: Diamond wedding bands--question

CW: The diamond district carries all sorts of diamonds so there are definitely other options beside F and VS stones. Just like the larger carats, smaller diamonds come in all types.

Re: Diamond wedding bands--question

They said that the majority of the stones placed into wedding bands are normally F color and clarity VS1. If I was to use that w/ my ering, it looks off in the clarity. REAL off! And then they tell me it looks great!

Hey girls--
Not that I am plugging my profession, but I am a GIA graduate gemologist, I work at Bailey Banks and Biddle in Walt Whitman Mall...anyways, if anyone is interested in redesigning any jewelry or having anything custom made, we are having a designer trunkshow on Friday, the day after Thanksgiving. It's going on from 12pm-8pm. This is definitley something cool to check out...this designer is awesome, he has tons of gorgeous semi-mounts, and will pretty much design anything you can dream of. :) Don't forget to ask for me...Jamie. :)

Re: Diamond wedding bands--question

I am getting a diamond eternity band with d colored stones to match my e-ring which is also a d in color. I also want stones that are of good quality, at LEAST, vs1...my ering is VVS1 so I don't want stones that aren't of good quality sitting next to my e-ring.
FH & I are working with the jeweler and of course picking out the stones ourselves.

I have a great jeweler who several girls from here, have already gone to, and they now love him.
Now he is OUR jeweler

if you want his info., let me know.
he is located down near Canal st. and he is VERY well priced and very reputable.

Re: Diamond wedding bands--question

I got an eternity band. It is a little over 2 carats in Total. I got the same quality stones as in my e-ring. It was not cheap but I love it!!! I didn't pick the stones I trusted my jeweler (my sis-in laws sis)
The stones are small so you may be able to get a little lesser quality. They can put the stones in a bad for you so you can see how the quality looks next your e-ring.

Just remember they cannot be sized if it is diamonds all they way around. So becareful whe you pick a size. Either that or you may have to 'upgrade' if your fingers grow!
