In order to cut down on time spent greeting the guests during our reception I wanted to go into the cocktail hour to greet some people & take quick pics. My mom thinks its a horrible idea. She thinks someone will spill food on my dress and I haven't had my cutting the cake pic or dance with my dad yet. Anyone do it/plan on do it...not do it/plan on not doing it? Why or why not?

There's no question that we'll be at our CH - not as soon as it begins, but at least the 2nd half hour.

I would love to go, but I dont think we'll have the time to! We're doing pics in between the ceremony and reception. The ceremony is at 11:30 at the church and CH starts at 1. If we can make half of it, that would be great.

We're planning to go. We're not having many guests, so it'd be ideal to get most greetings out of the way there. Plus we have a lot of down time between church and CH start, so it should be possible.

I absolutely went to my CH. I wouldn't have had it any other way! It gives you an extra hour to spend with your guests. I even got to eat during my CH here and there. Also, don't worry about people spilling food or drink on your dress. Everyone is smart enough to know to stay away from the bride with anything that can stain.

At first I was so dead against this......but after thinking so much about it and going back and forth we decided to take our pictures before the ceremony and attend the CH. I had to convince my mom since she didn't want us to see each other before the ceremony. But Its one more hour of the wedding that we get to enjoy!!

We did and it worked out great for us. We chatted with our guests during the cocktail hour and then were able just to go table to table in the reception.

we're taking pics before the ceremony and we're gettin married at the RH so im hoping we can do a receiving line in the beginning of CH, run off to have our moment alone and then back out to enjoy the CH. i dont want to miss any part of my wedding

We did. No one spilled food on my dress, but it was because we were so busy with group shots and when people came up to us we couldn't even go near the food!
DH and I did it for several reasons--to get large group shots of family without taking time away from the reception, and to make sure we greeted as many people as we could to make sure we didn't miss them at the reception. (We did wedding party shots and immediate family photos before the ceremony.)
DH and I are were pleased with our decision.

We are going to try really hard to make it. Why not? I think your mom is being a little paranoid about the food. I think you're more likely to spill dinner or a drink on it than someone else spilling food on it (guests are usually respectful of that kind of thing). Either way accidents happen, and that's what photo editing is for.

we did- we greeted everyone that was there- and then we went around the dining room before the main course was served just to make sure we got everyone- it worked out well

my cocktail hour was before the ceremony, so I did not go. Also, the radio station broadcasted from our wedding, so we were interviewed durning the cocktail hour.

The wedding is going to be over SO FAST. That's the one thing you hear from everyone who gets married. So I refuse to miss one minute of it. The cocktail hour is the best part!
As for the whole 'seeing each other before the wedding is bad luck' thing, I figure, the divorce rate being what it is, I'm sure most of those people went with tradition and didn't see each other before the wedding. It didn't help them.
I can't see spending what we're spending on this wedding and missing a whole hour of it. The reception is usually 5 hours, including cocktail hour. How can I willingly miss 1/5 of the best night of my life? Everyone I know and love is in one room, and that's probably the only time that's going to happen. How can I sit in a room when everyone I know and love is in another? I know FH and I would be together, but we have a whole lifetime for that. I'm not missing a thing.
We're seeing each other before, and taking all of our pics. That way, it's all out of the way for the rest of the night.
And as for someone spilling something on my dress, that could happen any time of the night. I think people will be careful. It's crazy to lock yourself away because you're afraid of staining your dress.

I am so going to my cocktail hour. I purposely left plenty of time in between the church and reception to take pics and all that stuff and I want to enjoy the entire reception. My mom also thinks it’s a bad idea…but I want to go. Now that you mention the food thing…my friend went to her cocktail hour and when she went to greet a guest, he had a plate of pasta in his hand and spilled some on her dress. She was really cool about it and they were able to clean it off before the reception so it turned out ok, but yeah….that could have been bad. Bring a tide to go with you!

i do kinda want to go in during CH. I don't see why not to. I think it's important to be apart of every detail in your wedding day, plus it definitely does give you that extra time to meet & greet. And it's not as tho it's going to ruin your introduction in the RH, since everybody already saw you at the church.
I'm definitely having all my pics finished before then, and I'm letting the BP go out there. Like i said before, I do think it would be nice to join them, but we'll have to see what happens. I might change my mind last minute and stay in the bridal suite with my new hubby.
I dont think it matters either way. I'll do whatever me & FH feel like doing in the moment
