DID ANYONE GO INTO THEIR COCKTAIL HOUR?

In order to cut down on time spent greeting the guests during our reception I wanted to go into the cocktail hour to greet some people & take quick pics. My mom thinks its a horrible idea. She thinks someone will spill food on my dress and I haven't had my cutting the cake pic or dance with my dad yet. Anyone do it/plan on do it...not do it/plan on not doing it? Why or why not?

wow, I didn't even think of this. Our CH is going to be in the same place as the whole Reception, is this still okay to do? Even though we are going to make an 'Entrance' and all of that stuff?

I didn't even think about doing this though, I am going to try and not take too long with our pictures. I was originally going to b/c we had 3 hours to kill time, so maybe we will just come back and do that!

I really don't get the whole grand entrance being spoiled bit - sorry you think people won't cheer as hard? We were at our CH as I said earlier and our entrance is still talked about because we choose a sick song that really said something and we were animated people were screaming over it. When we came into the CH people were just glad that we spent that extra time with them. If you really think someone is going to spill food/drink on you - then stand don't sit and don't eat/drink yourself. I ate/drank even before the ceremony and i was fine and i am the biggest slob.

I don't think it's wrong not to go to your ch but i think its easier on the couple when you do. The expectation of traveling around at the reception for the majority of the night is let go, you can at least take the time to really talk to the ones your really close too and having the chance to dance or hang out as much as you want to.

i dont think Fh and I will be going only because we are getting married at the RH, and NOT seeing each other before the wedding.....so our pics will have to be right after the ceremony while everyone is in the Chour....i would love to go though...but iam againist FH seeing me before the wedding!

I am the same way. I REALLY don't want to see each other before the ceremony. My ceremony and reception are in the same place, though. How much time do you think the photographer needs for pictures? We are planning to do our bridal party pictures before the ceremony, seperately. Thanks!

I did and it was the best decision we made! we got to see all of our guests, and a bunch got to give us our cards then, so we weren't rushed talking to everyone. We got to eat, and no one even came close to spilling anything on my dress but I did spill soda down the front. but the bridal attendant came right over with club soad and got it off in seconds, you couldn't even tell.

IMO the CH food is the best! we weren't missing it for a thing! I also really wanted to spend time with my guests so it was additional time! it was great!

we did and it was fun! We didn't want to miss any part of our wedding. We're happy we got to see how beautifully everything was set up, and that we got to sample the food, and most importantly that we got to see our guests enjoying it and to say hello and chat with some of them. We didn't have time to get around to all the tables during the reception, so we're glad we got to greet some of our guests during the CH. There was a close call when one of DH's little cousins went to hug me with tomato sauce on his face but none of it got on my dress. I wouldn't worry too much about that as long as you are careful. And most people (except maybe kids) realize to be careful around your dress. Besides, it's just as likely that someone will get food on you when you're greeting them during the reception. It's your day, and if you want to join in on your cocktail hour, then I think you should do it so you don't regret not doing it after the wedding.

Me and Dh went to our CH and i am and was extremly happy we decided to do so. We greeted most of our guest during that time we where in Ch for about 40 minutes.

My DH and I were at our cocktail hour. It was a great way to meet and greet everyone so we could have fun during the reception. In no way did our grand entrance get spoiled by being there. We wanted to enjoy every aspect of our reception and didn't want to miss a minute. No one spilled food on me and I bustled my dress to keep it from being stepped on. You do what would make you happy - don't worry about what others think.

I want to go for that exact reason. But FH doesnt so since he doesn't ask for much, wedding wise, I compromised.

i never even saw my cocktail hour room and we spent SO much time saying hello to guests during the reception. two of my biggest & only regrets. everyone to this day still raves about the CH, and while it was nice getting to see everyone at the reception, i wish we could've done it at the CH...i have distinct memories of saying 'but i want to DANCE to this song!'.. unfortunately it was a time mishap that caused it all...had everything worked the way we had planned we i'm sure things would've been different - but oh well..

lol so i rambled...all that to say i would do it if u can!

we went to the last 15 mins of CH since we didnt see eachother b4 the ceremony. We were swarmed when we came in so there really wasnt much greeting of anyone when we were there.

I also dont get the whole grand entrance when u were already seen during the ceremony, people really arent going 2 notice anything new about u anyway.

It seems like unanimously, everyone thinks its a good choice ,or it was the best choice that they decided to make :) I think we shall try to work this in. I don't think taking pics will take that long, I am just worried about traffic, and even then I will try to make it to the CH!

We deffinately are going to the cocktail hour. We both want to for all the reasons that have been mentioned. I also love the food during cockhail hour. I don't want to miss any of my wedding and that is part of it. I think there's more of a reason to go to it then not to--but that's how I feel.

we are planning on going to our for a while- we are seeing eah other before the service for our posed photo- i dont see a problem with the food or anything like that- i am sure that sometime during the ntie something will end up on the dress anyway-- but what can you do- i am going to be really careful until everything is done

We are taking pics before the church so that this way we can be at the CH.. I think we will hang out in the Bridal suite for like 15 20 mins n then go down for the Ch.. Paid all that money why miss it!!!

I completely agree!!! We don't want to miss the fun (especially since we are paying for it!). The ceremony is at 2:30 and is 15 minutes away from the RH. The CH starts at 6 pm. We will be on a mission to get the pics done so FH and I can be at the CH.

My DH and I went to CH and loved it! In fact, after the ceremony they pulled us into our suite to have some food/drinks and I couldn't wait to get out to CH. It gave us a chance to talk to a lot of people although we didn't eat anything while we were there. I really doubt you will need to worry about someone dropping food/drink on you, they will be careful around you!

We did and I am SO happy we did. It was nice to see everyone and eat somne food..that was the only chance we had to get a good amount of food into our systems...at the reception we didn't have much time to eat.
