Did anyone have to pick their own engagement ring?

Original post by CNC4eva3402

Long story short..I've always wanted to design my own engagement ring, and I made that very clear to FH in the beginning of our relationship.

So last year when FH proposed he bought me a BEAUTIFUL ring that I had mentioned I wanted, but its not an e-ring style, and he calls it my pre-engagement ring..

A year later..and I still have no clue what I want..I can't even deceide if I want a princess or round center stone! I wish I would have never told him I wanted to design it..because when it comes down to it..I can't make up my mind on what I want to wear..'forever'...hehe...all of them look beautiful to me!

Well, he took off from work next week and made an appt for us to meet with a jeweler, so needless to say..I have to come to a decision soon!! ...

Please post pics of your ring, or any ring for me to get some ideas...TIA!!

I had a picture in my head of what I wanted, pretty much since I was 10...I would print out pictures from adiamondisforever of rings I would create, and I'd stick them on the fridge...so, he knew exactly what I wanted, and he went to Blue Nile, and put it together, and bought it there...it was exactly like the pictures in my head! I don't have any pics on here...but, it's a heart shaped diamond with round pink sapphires on either side...I've been wearing it for 20 months...and I still can't stop staring at it...

ok...let me see if I can post a picture...I took it off the website...

we went diamond shopping together in the Diamond District and I had a few styles picked out. I had a favorite, but didn't know which one I was getting. He picked my favorite!!

i let FH surprise me.....

i couldnt decide what i wanted either and was so afraid that after i got it i would change my mind or it would go out of style.....so i told him that a solitaire would be the best way to go......

i think that solitaires are classy and they will always be in style no matter what the newest trend is.....

i liked pear stones because i wanted something different, i didn't want my ring to look like everyone elses especially if it was going to be a solitaire - and my mom has a pear so its kind of sentimental to me - it reminds me of my parents marriage.....

but anyway what i was trying to get at it was this:
if you aren't sure what you really want, why don't you let your FH surprise you? i am so glad that FH surprised me......i love my ring because of that.....FH might know you better than you know yourself! you said that you don't really know what you want anway so i don't think it would be so bad to just let him go for it.......

We had gone looking together. I have real small hands so i wanted a thick band. I tried this one on and fell in love. Tried others too. I had no clue he went and got it and had it in our house for 2 months!!!!!!!!!! lol

I am glad I got to pick it out only cause if I never tried it on I would have not known what I liked and did not like. It was still a surprise cause I did not know he was going to get it. I liked so many. lol.

My aunt and I picked it out since she has great connections. She had the setting and the stone and asked if i liked it. I showed it to FH and he fell in love with it. So I think I was a little backwards.

I picked mine out...

From this designer: Richard Landi maybe you can spin through his rings and see if you like anything?

We both didn't pick it

It was given to him by my grandmother. I've always loved her ring and I am the oldest granddaughter so it was passed to me

It's very antique!

I told my aunt I want a wedding band like my e-ring but when she went to a jewerly convention she made an executive decision to get me the larger diamonds for my wedding band cause she said she couldnt see the diamonds LOL shes so funny

does your e-ring sit nicely with your wedding band? mine doesnt so i might have to wear it on seperate hands

Mine is my avatar ... princess cut tiffany lucida style.

edited to add:
I always knew I wanted a princess cut solitare on white gold. I had shown FH people's rings I liked, and he gave me exactly what I wanted, plus an engraving that I never would have imagined :) He's so good like that.
