Did anyone have to pick their own engagement ring?

Original post by CNC4eva3402

Long story short..I've always wanted to design my own engagement ring, and I made that very clear to FH in the beginning of our relationship.

So last year when FH proposed he bought me a BEAUTIFUL ring that I had mentioned I wanted, but its not an e-ring style, and he calls it my pre-engagement ring..

A year later..and I still have no clue what I want..I can't even deceide if I want a princess or round center stone! I wish I would have never told him I wanted to design it..because when it comes down to it..I can't make up my mind on what I want to wear..'forever'...hehe...all of them look beautiful to me!

Well, he took off from work next week and made an appt for us to meet with a jeweler, so needless to say..I have to come to a decision soon!! ...

Please post pics of your ring, or any ring for me to get some ideas...TIA!!

I helped design mine. We went to stores and i tried on a bunch of things, I didnt want a round or a princess cut because I feel like they are a very common stone, I wanted something different. When I put on a pear cut i fell in love with it!

When we moved to FL, our neighbor ended up being a jewler, so we got to design it and order each diamond seperately and get exactly what we wanted without sitting i in a store. Pics of mine are in my album.

If you need any info on pricing or if you find something you like but want to do it cheaper or get a bigger stone for your budget let me know. I can put u in contact with her. She is amazing. My ring was apraized at over 9K and we paid 1/3 of that!!

Thanks so much!!

My FH works as an Armored Guard and he deals with a lot of Jewelers daily, he became friends with one of them who said he'll give him a discount..so we'll start there...but I will def. keep you in mind..Thanks!!

e-ring thread

another ring thread

This is mine. Round channel set with round stone. From what I heard, the same with round stone will appear larger than a square/princess stone. I originally wanted a princess, but FH talked me into a round and I love it.

Thanks for the links..

Your ring is beautiful..def something I had in my head!! I'm pretty sure I want that kind of band..still don't know weather to go with round or princess..I guess I'd have to see it on my hand...

i let FH surprise me.....

i couldnt decide what i wanted either and was so afraid that after i got it i would change my mind or it would go out of style.....so i told him that a solitaire would be the best way to go......

i think that solitaires are classy and they will always be in style no matter what the newest trend is.....

i liked pear stones because i wanted something different, i didn't want my ring to look like everyone elses especially if it was going to be a solitaire - and my mom has a pear so its kind of sentimental to me - it reminds me of my parents marriage.....

but anyway what i was trying to get at it was this:
if you aren't sure what you really want, why don't you let your FH surprise you? i am so glad that FH surprised me......i love my ring because of that.....FH might know you better than you know yourself! you said that you don't really know what you want anway so i don't think it would be so bad to just let him go for it.......

Aww..thats so funny because my mom has a round and thats one of the main reasons I also wanted a round...

I told my FH last nite that I wish he would just pick it out...and he told me that he's kinda scared too because I've put so much emphasis on wanting to do it myself since FOREVER, and he wants to make sure I love it 120%...GRRZZZ hehe

We both didn't pick it

It was given to him by my grandmother. I've always loved her ring and I am the oldest granddaughter so it was passed to me

It's very antique!

Thats absolutely beautiful!!! I am going to wear my grandmothers wedding band...I can't wait!

my suggestion is to go to the jewelry district and see what looks nice on YOUR finger....I wanted an antique style ring and ended up with just diamonds all around, thinner band and less bulky. I'm a size 4 so it was impossible to find something to complement my fingers!!!!!

this is the pic my jeweler worked off of....my actual ring is in my album

I picked mine... I've always wanted a heart shaped diamond. When we were at the jewelry store just browsing I saw it and told him that's the one I wanted when the time comes... he went back and bought it the same day

ETA: this pic makes the heart look lopsided lol.

hahaah that's so funny b/c FH told jeweler my size and he made it 4 1/2 thinking there's no way I'm a 4....he had to resize it one week later, when FH gave me the ring!!!! hahaha

I picked mine out because I'm very picky and I knew I HAD to have a yellow diamond.

My ring is the one in my avatar

I told FH that I wanted a princess cut and I also mentioned that I loved a channel setting and he picked out my beautiful e-ring for me

I think I'm a 4 too...it was either a 3.5 or a 4...the ring he proposed with had to be specially sized

We had gone looking together. I have real small hands so i wanted a thick band. I tried this one on and fell in love. Tried others too. I had no clue he went and got it and had it in our house for 2 months!!!!!!!!!! lol

I am glad I got to pick it out only cause if I never tried it on I would have not known what I liked and did not like. It was still a surprise cause I did not know he was going to get it. I liked so many. lol.

i LOVE your ring lori...
