Did anyone just see on the news the little girl that was....

Handcuffed? I think it happenedin Florida. She was having a tantrum so bad that all the other students had to leave the room. Then she started climbing the walls kicking and screaming and punching the teacher. She was sent to the princaples office where she continued. She climbed on a chair and then on top of a table. She was on the floor kicking. They called the police and they came and said we are going to handcuff you. And they did.
Ok Im not a mom but I don't see why this was so Horrible maybe a little extreme but it probably taught her a lesson. Her parents are going to sue (of course)
Wheres Deb was this in the armpit?

I think they called the police out of pure frustration. Apparently she was caring on for quite some time and they were looking out for their safety as well as the childs. I know this is not the same thing but as a nurse I have had 'harmless' 90yr olds turn around and strike at me and trust me restraining them is far safer than holding them down because once your adrenaline gets pumping you'll be suprised at your own strength and how easily you can seriously hurt someone just trying to hold them down. Now while handcuffing a 5yr old is a little extreme it was probably what they thought was the safest idea at the time. Just my personal opinion.

Much better article. Some key points!
It said that eventually, the girl got up, went into the math teacher's office and started throwing things from the desk into the trash.
The teacher had the other students in the class leave.
Another teacher was called to help, but the girl kicked her in the shins, hit her in the arm, and tried to scratch her, the report says. She calmed down after 25 minutes, the report says, but once she was in Di Benedetto's office, she started throwing things again and struck Di Benedetto three times, in the arms and stomach. Then police were called.
He said one of the training officers, Mark Williams, was aware the girl had been disruptive in the past when police received a call at 3 p.m. Monday saying she again had become violent at Fairmount Park Elementary School, at 575 41st St. S.
The girl had started acting up in class and struck a teacher and Assistant Principal Nicole Di Benedetto, Proffitt said.
She first was restrained with steel, standard-issue handcuffs but slipped out of those, he said. She then was bound with plastic flexible cuffs but continued to struggle, kicking at officers as they walked her out of the school to a squad car, Proffitt said.
She was put in the back of the cruiser but continued kicking one officer in the arms and legs, so another set of handcuffs was used to restrain her legs, a police report says.
NOW that is out of hand!

I'd be humiliated if I were her mother!
1- for letting my child behave that way 2- for not getting her MUCH needed help!!!

i would have the school call the parents and have them deal with the problem.....if the child had a sibling in the school that might work also......but i would still not handcuff a 5 year old......i just dont understand why all of you dont see the problem with that........
