one of my friends groomsmen gave a bounced check. they tried to cash it and got penalized with a fee.

this makes me more upset than not getting anything because this is actually costing you money!!!!

i totally agree!!

Re: Did anyone stiff you at your wedding?

My own MOH and a friend of mine stiffed me.

My MOH I know was having financial difficulty, but come on, even a card for 99 cents would have done the job!!! Not even a card from her and her DH. And mind you, she added her son on to her RSVP without consulting us.

My friend told me left our gift on the dresser. He gave us a card that day, however we are still waiting on the gift. Something tells me not to hold my breath.

We had about 4 no shows who have yet to even contact us to apologize or send us even a card, and that I think pisses me off even more.

I wouldn't be upset...I'm not in it for cards filled with cash. (and personally i'd rather get a present any day) Is it nice? Yes...but I don't base my wedding or marriage around it.

My aunt RSVP for 5 people. Which is Aunt, Uncle and three kids. The day of only 4 came and she gave me $150. But I paid for all 5!!! I was Pe-od!!!

I dunno about this whole 'They could at least bring a card' thing. If a guest couldn't afford a gift, I think bringing an empty card would be more embarrassing for them, knowing they can't afford to put anything in it.

Sure, we had people come who didn't bring a gift, and its only the few folks who did the 'gosh, I forgot it at home' deal that bother me, because as we approach our 1 year anniversary I know they were just LYING to us (I mean why say anything at all then?). I'm just happy all the rest had a good time and were there to celebrate with us.

I look at it this way... the wedding isn't for me- it's for other people. We could always just go to a justice of the peace and be done with it, but we want to celebrate. And we want the people we love to celebrate with us.

An invitation to my wedding is an invitation to share in our joy. No admission required- gift, cash, card or otherwise.

Just my opinion...

I see where many people are going with 'money isn't expected', but do you go to someone's house for dinner and not bring something?

As a young couple who paid for the ENTIRE wedding ourselves, it's not so much that we expect cards gushing with money, but at least something. I had a no kid policy and a cousin of mine invited his two children and didn't even put enough in the card to cover him and his wife....and she is a maitre'd at a well known catering hall in Queens, so she is in the business.

I also had a couple who gave $30, where can you go with your significant other for dinner and spend $30??????

Sorry to sound so bitter, but our wedding was 3 weeks ago, so it is quite fresh!

My advice is not to go into your wedding with the expectation of 'making money', it's not going to happpen. But enjoy yourself and live it up! It's a hell of an expensive party to not!!!!!!

OMG i'd be sooooo P'd OFF!!!!!!!!!!!! Why would someone do that! I'd be embarressed it i was that persoN! You spent all that money and to not have the deceny to pay what your plate and your guest cost is ridiculous!!!!! I'm sorry Hun! If someone does that to me, they better be prepared to hear it!!! Unless of course i understand their financial situation.. but if there is no situation there better be money!!!

Cherish, We had TWO MULTI-MILLIONARES AT MY WEDDING, ask me what they gave us????

One gave us a bathroom garbage can and soap dispenser.

The other gave us $200 in a card (it was my husbands sister) and she left an hour and a half into the wedding. She apologized at how little it was, which was an embarassing coversation to have, then told me we would have an 'amended check' when we get back from our HM, still waiting 3 weeks later. I don't want anything from those people!

PS, she was also my bridesmaid who missed my shower and my bachelorette party......shall i go on????

Maybe I sound selfish or whatever but we have these big parties that cost big bucks. I don't think its wrong to want that cash in the cards after, JMO

Re: Did anyone stiff you at your wedding?

I'm sorry but I think the majority should give a least something. I've seen people who were in such bad financial situations that they had a family of five living in a one bedroom apartment and they still managed to give $100 for a wedding.

Most people aren't in this situation and I think that if a person can afford to buy a flat screen TV or run to Starbucks for their '$4 bucks' coffee each day, they should be able to give SOMETHING.

I don't think it's the people that truly can't afford anything that we are venting about.

OMG!!!!!! MILLIONAIRES!!!!! But ive found that the richer people are the CHEAPER they are. My mom works for a millionaire (a professor with stocks) and he avoids her every Christmas, Sectretaries Day and her Birthday because he doesnt want to give her a gift!!!

And the idea of the richer the cheaper still goes with what CMC said... even the people who have to struggle find a way to give something reasonable

I really agree!!! My husband and his friends are Police Officers in Westchester. They are blue collar guys and they were all overly generous. We are the same way, it just amazes me. If I accept a wedding invite, I go because I can afford it and i want to give the couple something to start out their new life. If I can't afford it, I still send something, but I politely decline.
