Did everyone's FH....

ask your dad's permission? Mine didn't ! We had talked about it pretty openly so everyone knew it would happen sooner or later...Just curious about everyone else!

Re: Did everyone's FH....

Matt did. He actually sat in front of my parents house waiting for them to come home. Needless to say they didn't get home before he had to pick me up. So he went out to 'get a snack' (drove to my parents) asked my dad and came home and asked me to marry him.

it was very cute!!!

Re: Did everyone's FH....

FH asked my parents beforehand. They gave him a huge lecture about marriage, life, how to treat me, etc. LOL!! He got more than he had anticipated!

Re: Did everyone's FH....

Mine didn't. It was an issue because my dad is very traditional and we knew he'd be upset, but my dad is also very difficult and FH was afraid of getting into a confrontation when he asked. So instead, we took him out to dinner after we got engaged, and together asked for his blessing.

Re: Did everyone's FH....

FH did. And my dad was so happy when he did! It came more as a shock to him than anything else. But I think it brought them closer to them. So its all good.

Mine did. My parents ADORE my FH. (sometimes more than me, I think! ) So he had no worries. They were very impressed though.

P.S. He even came in the house on our first date to introduce himself to my parents!

Re: Did everyone's FH....

Mine did too.. the night before he proposed.. (that's the when the ring came in) It was pouring out and he didn't have the top of his jeep on so he was soaked.. He went to my parent's house (I thought he was at the gym) and my mom was like 'what are you doing here?' he was like 'I left myATM card here the other day' ( he didn't want to tell my mom cause she has a big mouth and would have told me) so my dad was like 'Don't you have a rain coat?' he's like no, so my dad told him to follow him down to thebasement so he can get him a raincoat... down they went and my dad's bent over in the closet digging for the raincoat when todd says, 'Oscar, I want to marry Marcella' my dad says 'yeah, yeah, don't worry about it' todd says, ' No, oscar you are not understanding me and he grabs his left ring finger and says ' I want to ask MArcella to marry me!' My dad dropped the raincoat and grabbed him, hugged him, kissed him and welcomed him into the family!!

Re: Did everyone's FH....

Mine tried to. My mom was in the hospital when he picked up the ring so he went there to see my parents first (my dad spent everyday there with her) but when he got there my mom was somewhere for more testing so he missed them. He had always said he didn't really want to anyway though cause he wantd me to be the first to know

Re: Did everyone's FH....

Mine did - not permission - just a head's up.

We were in NY for the weekend and Al got my dad alone for a few minutes. Neither of them can remember exactly what he said - Al was so nervous and my dad wasn't expecting it and was so excited. He was thrilled Al asked (really just told him in advance)

It was a week before he proposed and my dad wasn't allowed to tell my mom (she can't keep a secret). So everythime the phone rang all week, he thought it'd be us with the news. When we finally called - he was so relieved he didn't have to keep the secret any longer.

Re: Did everyone's FH....

My FI did. He asked my mom the morning of. He said he would've done it sooner, but he knew that she wouldn't be able to keep it a secret (lol) and he didn't want me to find out by accident.

Re: Did everyone's FH....

My FI did too. He actually asked my parents a both before we got engaged. I was actually at a nail appointment when he went see my parents. He lives in LI and I live in Brooklyn. He told my parents that he was here because he was going to take me out to lunch (since we were not suppose to see each other that day) that was why he was there. My dad then said that he was going to get a haircut. My FI said before you go I have to ask you something. My dad then said well I guess I am not going anywhere now (he says that he kind of figured it out). My FI was so nervouse when he told both my parents that he wanted to marry me and that he had a ring. He should them the ring and mom started to cry. My dad said yes (of course). Then he said that they needed to celebrate, so pulled out some wine. They drank to us! I know all this because my mom told me after we got engaged.

Re: Did everyone's FH....

I would have been very, very upset with my FH if he had asked anyone's PERMISSION to marry me. I am the ONLY person who can give that. My parents were told after he asked me.

Re: Did everyone's FH....

My FH approached my mom and dad, told them he wanted to marry me, and asked for their blessings. I thought it was very sweet, and my parents were touched that he involved them in the whole proposal scene.

I've lived on my own for almost twenty years...no permission was necessary, but the blessing meant the world to us.
