Re: Did everyone's FH....

My FH did. He asked my Dad and asked him to make the ring (since Dad is a jeweler) when they were on their way to pick up a pizza. My Dad said that he would be honored to have him as son in law, but that we please wait till I finished law school to get married.

Re: Did everyone's FH....

My hubby kind of told my dad one night about a week before. He basically just wanted him to know (it shouldn't have come as a shock, we had been togehter so long!!). We are old fashioned and very traditional, so this is how I wanted it.

Funny thing is, when he tells my dad he is going to ask me to marry him, my dad got very excited and said 'oh, let me get Catherine and tell her'. Catherine is my mom.... But to hubby, she's Mrs. So-So and Catherine is my younger sister.... So hubby, thinking my dad was talking about my sister, said 'oh, no don't tell her, let us share the news with her after I propose.' So my dad had to walk around for a week and not tell my mom, when actually that would have been fine as long as he didn't tell my sister (who can't keep a secret and would've called me to tell me!!).

Re: Did everyone's FH....

No, my FH didn't ask my Dad. Actually he was the last person I told that my FH and I were engaged. Right now Dad is going through a hard time realizing that I'm getting married and leaving him, especially since I will be moving 1500 miles away(before the year is up).

Re: Did everyone's FH....

No he didn't, infact nobody knew we were getting engaged except our 2 best friends. We got engaged on vacation, so nobody even saw the ring until 9 days later. We had some unhappy parents. But, I thought it was perfect.

Re: Did everyone's FH....

I agree with Michele on this one too...

John asked me! although his mom was in town a month before the engagement...so John and I invited both of our families out to dinner...and then my mom invited them to her house (all before we were engaged)

then when I called my mom to tell her...she said 'oh, that's nice...' WHAT??!!! then she said 'well after the dinner, I knew it would be coming soon...'

So I guess we let them know...without telling them...

Re: Did everyone's FH....

Mine didn't - he was too chicken. Instead, we all went out to dinner together to talk about it.

Re: Did everyone's FH....

My FH took my dad out to dinner to ask him, my dad had no idea. He was nervous because he thought my FH was gonna tell him that he didn't want to be with me anymore and at this point we had been living together (my FH had taken my dad out also before we moved in together to ensure my dad that he was serious about me and he wanted a future) Anyway, he took my dad out to dinner to ask him and my dad was really happy and honored that he was asking for his blessing. It was funny because my best friend (MOH) and I were right down the street on Bell Blvd having dinner together and I had no clue what was going on right down the street from me.

Re: Did everyone's FH....

No, we called my parents together. I knew my mom would have a less then thrilled reaction and I didn't want my FH to do it alone. BTW, my mom's exact words were 'I got used to the fact you moved to Long Island, I guess I'll get used to this.' Talk about bubbles bursting!

Re: Did everyone's FH....

He did, (he asked both of them) and just in case they were tempted to say no (which they wouldn't have) he had lobsters with him as a bribe!! LOL! He's too cute!
