Did FH/DH ask your Dad for permission?

And what did your Dad say??

My Dad told my Rusty:

'I would be proud to have you as my son in law but there's something you need to know. I understand that men and women will have their difficulties and fights. BUT. If you ever lay a HAND on my daughter, then you're going to have to deal with ME.'

And Rusty says:

'But what if she lays a hand on ME?!'

And Dad says:

'Sorry. You're marrying into the D******* family. You're going to have to live with that.'

No, he didn't. He figured, I'd been out of my parents house a long time, I was an adult and even if my father said no, he was still going to marry me. (not that he would have said no!)

I will add though, that my father had no problem telling me he was disappointed that DH didn't go to him first.

He spoke to my parents first, but I think he just kind of told them he was going to be proposing, he didn't actually ask for permission. It was still sweet of him.

My FH Did ask my Dad and Dad's response was pretty much the same as this!

Yes, he called my dad and asked him to go to dinner with him and that's how he asked him. He brought the ring also to show him. It was all very sweet

Yes, mine did after 6 months of dating!!

He did it the day after x-mas...he asked both my mom and my dad. My parents said he was sweating bullets! He asked if he could talk to them, so they all sat at the dining room table, and he asked, and then he says they proceeded to ask him about 25 questions about his intentions, and what he was planning in life etc......lol...then at the end, my dad and mom gave him a hug, and my dad welcomed him to the family.

My stepdad and I arent all that close...I was most raised by my mom and uncle--FH went ring shopping with my uncle which i thought was the sweetest.

He told me afterwards that if he told my parents they wouldn't be able to keep it a secret. (He's right--they are the worst!!)

Yes My Fh went to my house on a night he knew i was out and asked my dad's permission and my mom took out the Video Camara

Actually, my FH did call and speak with my father. Every time we saw my father up to the engagement, it was for one wedding or another and not an appropriate time to ask.

So, 1 hour before I got home from work, FH called my Dad and stated that he loved me very much and wished for permission to propose to me (when I heard this story, I cried), and my Dad said yes of course, then my FH said, please don't tell Mom or brother about this b/c I want everyone to be surprised, etc and not spoil it for me! Well it worked, but the funny thing is, my dad was on the couch having this conversation and was sitting next to my mother and brother and all he could do was smile and say, yes, sure, okay, etc to not let anything out of the bag!!!!!!

The next day, FH proposed at sunset!

Pretty much the same for me. It was along the lines of 'I just wanted to let you know that I bought her a ring, and I'm going to ask her to marry me.' My dad actually hugged him and was sweet - he later regretted not busting his chops about it like he normally would. He wanted to joke around and say no. My mom on the other hand said 'you better take good care of my daughter!' Even though she loves FH, this is just SO her character.

Oh, and he had to wait until a few hours before our flight to Ireland because my family has such big mouths, if he did it any earlier I would have heard from someone!

FH asked me dad's permission about 3 weeks before he proposed - it was so sweet hearing the story. When he asked my dad, FH told me that my dad said 'I'm very happy for the both of u but at the same time I'm very sad because this means my daughter is leaving us now' Needless to say walking down the aisle with my dad is gonna be a very emotional moment for me. I can see the waterworks now lol

then my mom gave him some speech about no divorce and work thru problems bla bla bla.
